Hypoglycemia

When I was 22, I literally weighed only 100 pounds. At 5' 7"---I was quite underweight.

At work one day, I suddenly got very dizzy while walking, started shaking badly and sweating. My supervisor took one look at me and told someone to run to the cafeteria and bring me fruit juice and a Coke.

Long story short----my doctor ordered an 8-hour glucose tolerance test, and I was diagnosed with hypoglycemia.

The attacks or episodes of hypoglycemia are frightening. I have had many, many of them since 1978.

Unfortunately, I'm no longer underweight.

I was told that hypoglycemia is often "the precursor to diabetes."

Amazingly all these many years, I have not developed diabetes.

I was advised to eat more protein and carry a small bag of hard candy with me---in my purse and/or vehicle.

The other name for hypoglycemia is "insulin shock" and like diabetes, a person with it can go into a coma and die.

I need to get motivated and begin going on walks with my dog.
