Some children have a hard time writing even just a few letters because
it "hurts." This might be a sensory issue that can be helped using a
variety of strategies.

One can try a thicker pencil or crayon.
There are a variety of pens on the market that are shaped for the hand.
Try wrapping yarn tightly around the pencil creating a thicker, yet softer
feel. Another idea is to put some play dough in a plastic bag and fit it
into the palm on the hand giving greater support to the hand as a whole.

Try elevating the writing surface using a binder. Try different
sizes to get a good feel. We use 3 inch empty binder. Some may
find it better to have some paper in the binder to reduce the slope
of the binder. Can also use this as an organizing tool, different color
binder for different subject.

There are hundreds of technologically assisted devices that can be used as well.
A computer or portable keyboard. We use a NEO by AlphaSmart.
This can be programed with work assignments, can plug into printer
and other computers, and a few other services we haven't yet gotten into.
There are so many devices in this field, you will want to do your own research for
your own needs. Your Intermediate School District should
have all the necessary information on this.

These are just a few ideas of what is available.

Excellent suggestions. white boards are good because there is little resistance, also the use of special pens like Pen Again they are only about $2.50 at Walgreens and come in felt tip markers too.
The Dana is a great tool and virtually indestructible.
