An average of 171,000 Christians worldwide are martyred for their faith per year. This isn't including the countless of them that have been beaten, thrown into prison, had their homes or villages burned down, or accused falsely and so much more.
Jesus said unto Saul (before becoming known as Paul) when he stopped him on the road to Damcus. "Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?"
Saul never met Jesus face to face, and he went about killing and presecuting Christians. Yet Jesus asked Saul, "why persecutest thou ME?" By that question alone shows Jesus feels every bit of what each one of these sheep of His has suffered and is going through.
Jesus also said, "Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake." Matt.5:11
