the Peace of God
Thank You heavenly Father, we are not anxious about anything. Thank You Holy Spirit for assisting us in knowing the peace of God through prayer and worship. Our hearts and minds are guarded by His Peace. In Jesus Name, amen.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. {Phillipians 4:6,7}
This week I heard one of the best explanation's of God's peace I have ever heard. A chatter in the room expressed it, like this: "I am strangely calm in the middle of turmoil."
Normally, when we think of peace, we imagine perfect settings. We think of quiet, orderly lives. We believe that in peace, nothing ever flies apart or goes wrong. If only we could attain God's peace, things would line out and be wonderful.
Reality check: We have lives subject to outside pressures and circumstances. Work problems, kids crying, stuff spilled, other people who won't co-operate, the list is endless, right?
This particular chatter obviously had 'stuff' going on that was not peaceful, yet it was not disrupting the peace of God within them. How is it possible to know peace in the midst of turmoil? What is it that can make a person feel 'strangely calm' while everything around them is chaos?
So many here express the need to control their emotions, to get a grip on feelings that are all over the place. It seems hopeless and confusing to them, impossible to cope with.
We know the first step is knowing Jesus, because he is the Provider of everything we have. He's provided it for us, but it's up to us to grab ahold of it. So, how do we get the peace of God?
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. {Phillipians 4:6,7}
Be axious for nothing.......don't worry about a thing. Surely, that's what was happening with the chatter I mentioned. There wasn't any worry about the circumstances---but, why? What happened to cause such calm?
Jesus happened. He not only moved in, He got the best room in the place. Sometimes, when He is accepted into a heart, He has to make do with whatever room is left over after worries, problems, sickness, and a host of other 'junk'.
But when the house is cleaned out and swept free for Him to fill it up, He takes the burden Himself. He moves in, and everything He Is, comes with Him. He is the Prince of Peace. To even begin to control unruly emotions, this is a key.
We must unload our burdens on His shoulders, 'cast our cares on Him'. I hear so many people say--"How? I can't just forget them...what will happen??? What am I going to DO?"
We make it so much harder than God intended it to be. It doesn't matter what the problems are. It makes no difference if the turmoil continues. In one way or another, it most likely will. This peace is not an outward calm, it is inward. Where do we get it?
...but in everything (every circumstance), by prayer and supplication (with honesty and humble heart), with thanksgiving ( gratitude and appreciation ), make your requests known to God.
Such simple but needful prayer time! Here is the When, What, How, and Who. When = everytime I need help; What = prayer and requests; How = with thankfulness and a humble heart; Who = God, who has everything I'll ever need.
Where is important too. Getting alone with God and doing this kind of praying is not a rushed, dashed off prayer or two....those help when the situation is difficult.
This praying is something planned, a spiritual get-away for two....you and Him. Create a quiet place for the two of you, ask Him and He will help you find the quiet, the time, the place. He wants to meet you there. Nothing is impossible .
...and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. {Phillipians 4:6,7}
And so peace comes to live inside your heart, no matter what storm rages outside. It even guards your heart AND your mind..... The two places emotions exist the strongest. Through the salvation of Jesus, it is available to everyone of us. Every one of us can say, "I am calm in the middle of turmoil."
So will you hear the good news? Will you believe it....for you? Will you take the step towards managing your emotions, no matter what the storm is? Sweep your heart, and let Peace move in.
For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them] Phillipians 4:8 amp }
