small wonders
I'm not sure that this is the right place to post this...but I'm going to anyway.
Last night I was lying in bed listening to my boys who were in the other room. They are 23, 21 and 16. One is newly home after being away for 4 years, one is enlisted in the Army and home on leave for Christmas and the other is the "baby brother".
They were supposed to be going to sleep, but as usual, they were talking. They were each taking turns trying to get the dog to jump in their beds...to see who the dog would sleep with. There was a small rivalry going on between them. Then, I heard one say, "Dude, roll over! You're snoring like a freight train" Then there was a reply, "Dude, you sleep with 3 other guys in the barracks..you should be used to it". Then I heard the 16 year old say..."You both snore and keep everyone awake...and you both talk non-stop" Then there was laughter as they talked about who snores louder, who can beat the other in a race...on and on and on, till the sun came up.
When they were little I would have been in the room telling them all to quiet down and go to sleep. This time, though, I wanted to hear them. I was reflecting on when they were little. The frustrations of little fingerprints on the walls....usually made with peanut butter and jelly (and sometimes you just didnt want to know what it was)..the "king of the hill" competitions...how one was stronger than the other...the constant "mama" or "I'm gonna tell!", the times in the emergency rooms when they broke their arms or were deathly ill, the fights and misunderstandings that later turned into a deeper understanding of each other; the things we miss when they grow up and have gone on with their own lives.
When I thought about them facing adulthood and the challenges that presents I had to thank the Lord and give Him all the credit and glory for watching them, and protecting them. For teaching them even as I failed to. For leading and guiding them and loving them with the Love only He can love them with. This love is not always easy on them, but it is what we all need. We are all gonna fail at times, but He is constant and secure.
The time passes so quickly and before you know it, the times we thought we would never get through are a distant memory and we realize we lived through it. We are stronger for it. We are wiser. We only made it by the grace of God. As we look back, if we look for the small miracles, they are everywhere...all the challenges we face in this life are glittered with the touches of the Lord's hand.
Life is not easy, He never said it would be. He does promise though, that He won't leave us. Look for the small miracles in your life...you will see that they all add up to one huge one...and that is His undying, unchanging perfect love for His children.
love you guys.

Such a beautiful and wonderful story about your boys, momo.
I've never experienced being a parent, so I'm enjoying the neighborhood boys who visit me daily.
God bless you and your family.
With love from your sister in Christ----------
