Ok so lately i have been hearing this song deep calls out to deep and i know it is a verse in Psalms

please feel free to add insight!

7Deep calls to deep

in the roar of your waterfalls;

all your waves and breakers

have swept over me.

If im in deep water He is there with me. So calling for Him while in my troubles.

But what got me was that the psalmist said Your waves and breakers have swept over me.

Which leads me to believe that maybe David was putting some blame on God for His troubles. ( which im sure we are all guilty of doing at some point or another)

I visualize David in a sea that is deep and the waves are crashing down on him one right after the other.

i think of how when problems seem to occur they come in waves and sometimes we r caught of guard. One day we are praising God the next we are trying hard to stay afloat!

But why is this laying so heavy on me to search this out.

maybe He wants me to go deep so i can bring things to the surface and letting me know He is there with me.

Deep into my mind... matters of the heart. Its defnately stormy in ther at times. But He is with me in the deep, the deep matters of my soul.

While I can't be sure why the phrase "Deep calleth unto deep" keeps coming into your mind, specifically, I do love the message within Psalm 42.

The unnamed Psalmist is apparently in between a rock and an hard place, not just by one challenge but by a multitude of challenges. He is a man of great faith in the Lord, and we see a process in his prayer/song/psalm. He admits that he feels completely spent with great thirst. He tries to do a little self talking, kinda like pulling himself up by his boot straps, but it doesn't seem to be helping. He mentions that he went with others to sing praises to The Lord, but yet he is still struggling big time. Yes, just as you said -- it's like being hit by wave upon wave, unable to regain his footing. He knows deep down that God is with him, and that God is allowing these challenges, but he feels overwhelmed. He knows that if he makes it through, that the experience will be a blessed reminder to him, in future challenges, of the restoring power of God's love. Then it happens...Selah ...by verse 8 he has dug deep and he starts confessing his faith in God Almighty. Basically he asks himself -- what am I doing, am I going to give the enemy of my soul the satisfaction of claiming me as his prize? No indeedy, I am not, because I know my God and I know that in praising my God that it is health to my countenance.

God does allow wave after wave to hit, sometimes its when we find ourselves in the deepest dispairs that we are ready to hear what God has to tell us, we are also to the point of being ready to depend on God to the fullest to carry us. It's easy to let our troubles get the best of us and wave after wave just carries us away. The enemy sees an opportunity to come at us. For a Christian, for a man of God as David, their soul is going to thirst for God. God is ready to quench that thrist, and He is ready to show His strength and power. David shows his faith here in saying, "Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life." He knows God can quench his thirst of his soul.

David proclaims, "I will say unto God my rock" he's declaring God's Strength. David says, "hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God." David knows the Power of God. So even in the storm when David feels the Lord has cast down his soul and is disquieted with him, shall he praise the Lord God.

See, there is no one that can sing a psalms as this without the Spirit of God upon them. David has reached a point of calling upon God, with all his heart, soul, mind and strength, and in the time of maybe some of the heaviest of storms, and his enemies are upon him. David is working his faith and praising God. He's listening to the Spirit within.

I think you could look at this from a different view also. for waves or fire is misunderstood all through scriptures, you see waves and billows as trouble. all through scripture, water and fire can be as destruction but God uses both fire and water to cleanse. the waters in Noah's time was to cleanse the evil from the world. water can also represent the Spirit even though it destoried things. Here I think the writer is saying in verse 6 they called out for the Lord, and even as real waves the wave God has sent may be overwhelming, we know that His loving kindness is with us. instead of accusing God of sending trouble the writer is reminding himself that God will take care of him.

Isaiah 59:19
19 So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.
