Chastisement is an often overlooked topic in the lives of many Christians today. Yet the subject of chastisement was as much an integral part of the Old Testament as it is also the New. Much of world now shies away from such things. Small wonder. I observe them and marvel. They appear perfect in all their ways. Truly they are whole and do not need a physician.

That isn't the case with me. Without my Lord I am nothing. Without my Lord I can do nothing. He is my master and my savior. He is my way, my truth, and my life. He is my daily bread. He is my fortress, my strong tower, my place of safety and refuge, my home where I live and have my being. He is my Dad. And when I mess up He sees it long before anyone else.

Sometimes in His Home, that fortress, that strong tower, it seems like a barracks to me, a place of warfare training, a place of preparation, a lonely fort on a high hill in the middle of no where. I am the lone soldier assigned to keep it. I didn't earn the honor easily. Such came through much trial and error, many 10 miles runs through muck and yuck, push ups knee deep in mud, laps around the grinder with my piece held high over my head, but I never faltered. That prize of wearing His armor and wielding His sword, of earning my place among those he had so humbled they became worthy of a place of honor. I trained hard under His hand, and when that Day of Battle came I slaughtered my 10 thousands.

He loved me enough to chastise me. I loved Him enough to endure it.

Hebrews Chapter 12

[5] And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
[6] For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
[7] If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
[8] But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
[9] Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
[10] For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure;
but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.

[11] Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous:
nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness
unto them which are exercised thereby.

Not withstanding, the purpose of our Heavenly Father in correcting us is two fold. He wants us to be holy, separated from the world to Him in love. His correction separates us from worldly living and much sin. When He is finished with us, we are His prize. We are clean before Him and in right standing. We have been made the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus!

It is most certainly far better to die in faith believing, than it is to live in unbelief.

Thanks. The post took a turn I wasn't expecting. I left off scriptures on the benefits of chastisement. Sometimes we forget that our Lord also makes our lives writings of Himself that bear witness to His word.
