My Journey, His calling
My Journey, His calling.
Mission trip to England
October 26-November 3, 2012
We got to the airport at 4:30 pm and were the first ones there. The pastor and his wife were there too. We got checked in and our luggage in and we went through security-they pat you down and you put everything on a belt, including your shoes. Our flight to Chicago was delayed by 8:15 instead of 5:30. So the choices were t fly to Chicago and spend the night at a hotel, or fly out in the morning because the London flight was cancelled too. We decided to spend the night at a hotel. We got to Chicago at 10:15 pm and then we couldn’t get our connection flight either. We left our luggage in the security place and found a van to take us to the hotel. We could only get 2 rooms, so 6 boys shared a room and us 4 girls plus the baby shared the other. We didn’t have any clothes so we had to sleep in our clothes. My hose were itching badly but I did fall asleep. We decided to wake up at 6 am. We got up and I brushed my teeth and my friend’s mom braided my hair since we had no combs. At least we were smart enough to bring toothbrushes/toothpaste in our carry on’s. Then we boarded the van and off we went to the Airport. Our flight wasn’t until 9:15 so we just hung around. We boarded the plane and they served us breakfast and lunch on the plane. It’s a 7 hr flight but by the time we got to London Heathrow it was 10:15 pm. No we didn’t sleep on the plane. We went through customs and showed our passports and got questions asked which made me nervous. So, then we got our bags and walked and walked and found the missionary pastor and he was waiting for us, then we walked and walked and walked to get on a train took the train to other side and then took taxis 4 at a time to the hotel, where the minibus was. It was sooooooooooooo cold!!! Ten we drove for 5 ½ hrs to Liskeard, Cornwall. We finally got to the Nebula guesthouse at 4:30 am, England time. Me, my friend, and her mother shared a room. It had 3 beds, and 1 armoire, which we shared, and then a bathroom. We went right to sleep. Felt great, putting clean pajamas on and sleeping in a clean soft bed!!! The next morning we got up about 8 and got down to breakfast. They had full English breakfast and porridge everyday and hot English style tea with milk and sugar. After breakfast, we went out passing out flyers for the jungle theme VBS. It was soooooo cold, my hands froze, so then he took us to town in Cornwall and gave us 40 pounds and we went to the fat frog and me and the lady got leek and potato soup. It wasn’t good but we were so cold so I drank it. Then we went around town and then to the church to help make vines and fix the jungle theme for the kids. We had church service on Sunday and then on after church we went to Looe, a fishing port, we grabbed lunch and tasted fudge, haha the guy was fixing to put it in his mouth when I said I’ll take it. So he gave it to me. I froze there!! in Plymouth (old town), because it was near the sea. Monday we started VBS and in all, 22 kids showed up. We did games and crafts, and snacks, and then some bible things. Pastor told them if they can memorize a scripture then they et a chocolate bar. Many children memorized the verse. I actually made some of the crafts. So then the VBS was for 3 days. We went down to Looe again, and an old, old 1500’s or so hotel that has a carvery there overlooking the ocean bay, sure was a great meal. Then for dinner we went to pastors house for hamburgers, we even got to look around at Morison’s (walmart). We got to see parks and cliffs and walk up the cliff to the sea, and we got to see castles and after the rain, a rainbow. We ate fish and chips with salt and vinegar and pasties, mmm. Lots of shopping, but (just to look). On the day we were to leave for home we got to go see Oxford University and shopping in Oxford, we got to see where George Muller built the Orphanages and got to go inside to use restroom. It is a college now. Plymouth was great too, we saw where the mayflower landed on Plymouth rock and all the monuments got to see churches where John Wesley and his brother preached and then we got to spend 2 days in London, we got to see Buckingham palace and we saw all the castles and where the Christians were martyred (hung or burned at the stake), then thrown down a mote. They had like a cage down there that they’d put Christians before they were executed. We saw London bridge, west minister abbey, London square, London eye. So, me and my friend shared the room in London, It was funny because her mother would knock on the door to wake us up, and I was dreaming she was calling us when the door was knocked on. Well it was 6:00 am, we were already packed so we left, got on the bus, got on the airport and it wasn’t long before ou flight. We got the middle three rows, was 7 hrs so I kind of fell asleep and dropped my glasses, oops, . So, they fed us 3 snacks and 2 meals, I didn’t like the pizza so I ate my fruit. At 7:30 am is when we left London, so we got to ftworth/dallas at 2:30 pm or so, took a train all the way to other side of airport, got our luggage in customs and brought it back over to pt it back for the next flight then boarded to Oklahoma. 3:30 was time, so I called grandma to tell her I’d be there in 25 mins. She told me she was at home and that the pastor would take me home because grandpa was in the hospital. So I sure was tired of sitting in that plane, when we got to the airport the whole team was there to welcome us home and my friends dad took me home.
