Is Secular Music OK???

Postby jenniferlovesjesus » Sat Sep 26, 2009 5:28 pm

So many people wonder, is it wrong to listen to secular music?
Well depends on the song..

if the song has no purpose and is not pleasing to God, then its not ok to listen to..God wants you to Worship Him through everything you do. There is so much music out there these days that is not pleasing to God and it breaks my heart to see what some Christians listen to.

There is some secular music that isnt harmful to your relationship with Christ. Some questions you can ask yourself when choosing a secular song are:

-is this something i would listen to if i spent a day with Jesus face to face?
-does this please God
-will this affect my relationship with Christ
-does it harm anyone

hope you take this advice....its awesome..i use it...
in His name

Hi Jennifer
Great post sis, such wisdom and balance from someone as young as yourself, wow. :)
Another thing to go along with what you said that I think about is:
"how this affects my relationship in Christ"
Does it actually draw me into the presence of the Lord that I may worship Him, as He is wanting for us to draw nigh unto Him, into His presence. To "worship Him in spirit and in truth", John 4:23,24
Does it encourage, build and strengthen my faith and walk in Christ as this is what we as believers need to do daily.
What better than when we are having difficulties, perhaps down or discouraged to not only pray and read God's word but also listen to edifying Christian music that sets our focus on the Lord and encourages our hearts, to where in we are strengthened in Him, changed into His likeness.
Thanks for sharing such wisdom sis. God bless you. *harp* *Guitar*

I think songs like loves songs, if you want to get romantic with your husband/wife will you listen to amazing grace or there is a name.

You are married and God does want you to have life and have it abundantly. I feel that if you want to be inspired listen to a gospel song, if you feel down and want to be uplifted listen to a gospel song, if you feel like celebrating listen to a gospel song. But when it comes that particular part of life for married couples i feel that soft love songs are ok.

ive heard many many secular songs that when listening through the Holy Spirit, i will hear the Lord in them. Either my love for Him, or His for me. There was one in particular, that led me back to Him :)

We walk through this world but are not here to stay. Listen through the spirit within you. There are many good secular songs that the Lord, Himself, has inspired.

in Jesus,
love yous!

i'm going into a frenzy of "agrees" and "amens" to you all !!!! rofl

just this morning when i took rocky for a walk, one of those exact songs came on my mp3 mix; its forever by chris brown ... it sums up mine and darrell's marriage sooo much.

i find God present in alot of music, not just christian.
