The Unprofitable Servant

Cast Into Outer Darkness Bible Verse

Let's begin, shall we? An unprofitable servant is one who is called to perform a task and fails to do so. The end result is that which the unprofitable servant was to do is an added burden placed on others that serve the same cause because of the failure of the unprofitable servant to comply with the commands of their employer.

God has called His servants (Christians) to help with the Harvest.

The Harvest is the gathering all of the lost souls and troubled Christians and His servants are to share the Truth with these lost children of God as to give them the same opportunity that we Christians that have been given the Truth have been given. But, alas we have some Christians that say "You betcha" yet do not follow through. The end result is the Cast into Outer Darkness Bible verse curse.

Jesus explains:

Matthew 21:28-31

28 But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard.
29 He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went.
30 And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.
31 Whether of them twain did the will of his father?
They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the Kingdom of God before you.

The Unprofitable Servant Parable
Cast Into Outer Darkness Bible Verse Warning

Have you ever considered that being a Christian is not only a calling to be set free from the chains of man's world but is also an administration where you are to share what you have been given with others as to assist them in being set free? Once you become a believer you become part of the body of Christ. Each body part has an assigned task. Therefore, it is like a job. Your wages are eternal life with Jesus Christ.

What is your job description, as a servant of God? Simple ... To glorify Him through your words and deeds as to bring light to the darkness of others as you share the Truth of the Gospel and prepare those that are new to the body or are unaware of how the body functions the tricks of the trade of the Christian Walk.

Think about it for a moment. God is your employer. Consider this Truth ... You arrive at work each morning and meet with God in Prayer. You ask for your assignment and ask that He reveal His will throughout the day. You set forth to bring His will to pass and show His glory to all that He brings across your path. Because nothing is luck or chance.

How about asking Him to give you opportunities to do something really phenomenal for Him. What if you really started treating Him like He's the boss and not you ... Do you think He'll offer you a promotion or a blessing that you may have missed if you just kept following your own plans ... Doing the bare minimum just to get by one more day at work?

The Unprofitable Servant Quest
Cast Into Outer Darkness Bible Verse Concern

In order to survive, unfortunately most people have to perform a job in man's world, and that is cool but every Christian has a job in God's realm. Some people treat it like their second job, even though it's the most important and the benefits are far beyond what any worldly job can offer. It has the best Eternal Life insurance policy that money cannot buy.

But some people don't think of it as a job at all. I don't mean that in the sense that their enthusiasm for serving the Lord is so great that they don't think of it as work (though I wish that was everyone's attitude) ... What I mean is, that most people don't feel like their job description as a Christian requires anything more than simply to say ... "I am a Christian" and that will suffice.

Jesus told a couple of parables about this very thing. Let's take a look at what He said about the unprofitable servant:

The Unprofitable Servant Explained
Cast Into Outer Darkness Bible Verse Danger

Matthew 25:14-30

14 For the Kingdom of Heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.
15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.
16 Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.
17 And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.
18 But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his Lord's money.
19 After a long time the Lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.
20 And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.
21 His Lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.
22 He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.
23 His Lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.
24 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:
25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.
26 His Lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:
27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.
28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.
29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.
30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

The Unprofitable Servant Decision
Cast Into Outer Darkness Bible Verse Fear

In short ... The Lord gives us the command, opportunity and the ability to share Him with others, and thereby bring His lost sheep back to Him. If we take the opportunities that are given to us, we gain many blessings, but if we refuse to try, we lose even the blessings that we have. Let's look at another parable Jesus told:

Luke 13:6-9

6 He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.
7 Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?
8 And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:
9 And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.

Jesus is referring to God checking the fruits of Man over the previous years and finding no fruit. No productivity. They chose to serve themselves in man's world as compared to answering the call. So now Jesus, by way of the Holy Spirit is working the soil of our minds and hearts as to have us produce better fruit for God to feed millions with the Truth.

Sometimes it takes a little urging for us to get busy serving the Lord, because if we're left alone without motivation, we end up dormant and end up only viewing the world as if it all revolves around us. Then comes the pain and anguish man's world emits and the individual goes off whining that God is at fault. Tsk tsk.

All it takes is a little effort, a little passion, a little purpose, a little give a hoot and you can be producing fruit for the Lord in no time. But, you must act. Enough with the excuses. Enough with the selfish points of view. Enough with the pity parties. Get real. Get a clue. Get after your job. Get back to the land of the living. Get with Jesus or get ready to know what being in the darkness of a whale or what the cast into outer darkness Bible verse danger feels like. If you do fall into this trap, I pray that it is only 3 days as with Jonah and not Eternal.

Do Not Be the Unprofitable Servant
Cast Into Outer Darkness Bible Verse Woe

Here's a question that everyone who has neglected their service to the Lord should all ponder on: How many times are you going to tell the Lord that the dog ate your homework? How many excuses will you make up? How many times will you run and hide, as Jonah did when he was assigned a task? How many times will you procrastinate and say tomorrow I will do this or that? And just one more question ... How many more times do you suppose you'll get away with it before you are deemed as an unprofitable servant?

God calls each and every one of us to work for Him. We are all His servants. He expects us to say yes to the awesome opportunity that He has placed before us for the Grace that He has offered us by sacrificing His Son to get us this one last chance. Every day of our lives He gives us the choice to be a better servant, to get a promotion, a raise in Spiritual Gifts, To climb His Corporate ladder. It is that Spiritual stairway to Heaven.

So many called souls choose to fail to answer the call. The world is just too appealing with it's temporal "treats". This is why so many end up heartbroken and worse. They choose the world over God then choose to blame God. Jesus said:

Matthew 22:14

For many are called, but few are chosen.

It is obvious that this is because few choose to serve Him.

A moment ago, you read of some terrible consequences for those who are deemed as the unprofitable servant: It read ... "And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

Ode to the Unprofitable Servant
Cast Into Outer Darkness Bible Verse Fears and Tears

My friend that is a down right horrifying prospect. The Lord wants all of us to choose to serve Him. He doesn't want anyone to be cast into outer darkness:

Ezekiel 33:11

As I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die ...

Does it not just break your heart to hear our Lord plea for us to stop hurting ourselves? Don't you want to do something to ease His pain? Don't you care? Will you just say "Amen" to these words of Truth and then walk away and forget what he has said and return to your assembly line in man's world? Will you fail Him yet again? What will you say when He reminds you of this at Judgment day? What excuse do you feel will be worthy?
