Snowbird

Written by Luz Leigh - 19 August 2008

The blessed rain we have been praying for has finally arrived. Yesterday it began ... today it has continued. I am so thankful for the rain that will replenish the moisture in the Earth. It was in need of a good drink of water from the Father. We can use our water hoses to keep the young trees, shrubs or grass alive for a while, but there is nothing like a good soaking rain.

While I have been housebound these past couple days, I have read a lot, visited via Instant Messenger with friends or talked on the phone. Today I started listening to some CDs ... different types of music; gospel, country western, contemporary Christian and pop. For a long time I listened to Anne Murray as she sang twenty of her best recordings, beginning with "Snowbird." The person who introduced me to this particular album is what I termed a "snowbird" when we first met. You see, he resides above the Mason-Dixon line. He has taught me much about being myself; he reminds me often to never try to be something I am not. Dear sweet Randy. He has seen me when I was at my lowest, but he was also there when I was floating on air.

We met in an odd place ... on the Internet of all places. We both have had wonderful spouses; great children; careers that were fulfilling and a love of the Lord. He was raised Catholic; I as a Southern Baptist. We do not let those theological difference interfere with our friendship.

Oh, that some way all the people in the world could just look at others as a fellow sojourner here on Earth. We need to share our belief in the Lord, but leave the denominations out of the equation. Wherever my "snowbird" friend is tonight, I wish him well and pray that the problems that crop us in his life can be turned over to the Lord. "Blessed are the Believers."
