Sadness - The Closing of a Chat Room

This Monday will be remembered by many as "black Monday" because this is the day more than seven hundred cyberspace wanderers got the news that our "home away from home" has closed. The Oasis chat rooms have been forced to close for financial reasons. This closing will be a shock to many. I was saddened by the news, but not entirely surprised. The administrator of the Christian website has for several months been making a plea for financial help from those of us who frequent the rooms. Some of us responded. Most, however, did not realize how serious the need was.
Christianity Oasis, through which we access the chat rooms, is a Christian website that offers much more than chat rooms. For us there are the Forums, including Prayer Partners, a Message Board, Christian blogs, various announcements and information about many facets of the site. To some the site is a church, to others of us it is a safe place to meet and while away the time with others folks. Christians come there to share our faith; non-Christians come seeking the TRUTH, which we gladly share. People with broken spirits come to have someone to listen to them and maybe receive words of encouragement.
Many lasting friendships have been formed through the Oasis chat rooms. Some of us have become close enough with others in the chat rooms to exchange E-mail addresses, snail mail addresses and even phone numbers. There have been personal visits among some of us.
This may sound like I am writing an obituary for an old friend ... not so. I am only sharing what is on my heart, hoping that by doing so, enough people will read my words and offer to help financially. Prayers are a necessary part of a Christian ministry, but money is also required. You see, the ChristianityOasis.com website is just like you and me. There are bills to be paid. Utilities and Internet service, just to name the first and foremost expenditures; there are many others, as one can imagine. Although the website is a Christian ministry, it must be cared for as any business. That entails having the required financial backing to do the Lord's work.
I hope I have not bored you with these details, but my heart is heavy this morning. There will be many lost souls, people seeking solace, suicidal individuals needing help, and others who will try to access the Oasis chat rooms, only to find a closed door. It is my prayer, and that of many others, that this closing will be only a temporary action. Should the Lord place it upon your heart to help this worthy cause, please contact:
