Finding God's Will

Written by Luz Leigh - 23 December 2008

Recently our pastor spoke on finding God's will for our lives. He told us there are three important questions that we must ask to ascertain God's will. They were all so simple, made me wonder why we don't do this all the time.

The first question we need to ask of the Lord is where do I look? Answer is very simple. We are to check out God's Word. Pick that book up, blow the dust off the cover and READ. Open your mind to what it says after you have prayed for His guidance.

Just as the Magi did when they came seeking the one born King of the Jews, we must stop and ask questions. This will entail humility. Admit that we don't know everything.

When we seek advice, select our advisor(s) carefully. Go to people you can trust. In Proverbs 11:13 we are told "A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy man keeps a secret." Proverbs 13:20 tells us "He who walks with the wise grows wise."

Speaking about giving advice, the pastor stated that not everyone needs your counseling. Again we are to be humble. Speak only when we are led by the Lord to do so.

Being asked for counseling does not make you an authority. We may be flattered when asked, but that does not immediately make us wise in the subject.

The real answer the person is seeking always comes from God's Word. We find Truth in the Scripture. First Corinthians, chapter one, gives some good advice about God's wisdom versus humanity's foolishness. Verse 19 quotes from Isaiah 29 when the Lord says, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate."

If we are asked for advice, resist our personal agenda ... get out of the "angel project." Turn to God with fervent prayers. He will answer.

Stand firmly on the Truth that God's will suffices in every situation.
