Sabbath Day in the Bible Vs the Lord's Day
Is the Sabbath Day in the Bible the same as the Lord's Day?
Why is Sunday the day that Christians choose to go to Church? Sunday is known as the Lord's Day because it's the day that Jesus was resurrected from the dead:
Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
Biblical Sabbath Bible Study Concern ... Some people think that Sunday is the Sabbath Day of Rest:
And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it He had rested from all His work which God created and made.
So, it is the seventh day of the week that is the day that God blessed as the Sabbath day of Rest:
Sabbath Day in the Bible Vs the Lord's Day Explained
In Israel ... The seventh day of the week is Saturday.
They celebrate the Sabbath from Friday evening at sunset until Saturday evening at sunset.
The first day of the Jewish week is Sunday. Just as it is on the American calendar.
Biblical Sabbath Bible Study Tidbit of Truth ... A lot of people think that Monday is the first day of the week, because that is the day they head back to school or work, but if you look on a calendar, you'll see that Sunday is really the first day of the week.
Sabbath Day in the Bible vs the Lord's Day Gift
In the early Church, the first day of the week, (Sunday) was the day that the Apostles and disciples shared in communion:
And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.
The first day of the week (Sunday) was also the day that money (offerings) was gathered:
Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.
Biblical Sabbath Bible Study Point of Interest ... This is why most Christians go to Church on Sunday, the first day of the week, to share in the Lord's table, and to give their offerings.
Sabbath Day in the Bible Vs the Lord's Day Comparison
But, what about the Old Testament Sabbath Day of rest commandment? This is the fourth commandment that God gave to the children of Israel concerning the Sabbath:
8 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God:
in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy
daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor
thy stranger that is within thy gates:
11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the
sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore
the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
The more complete version:
12 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying,
Verily my Sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you
throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the Lord that
doth sanctify you.
14 Ye shall keep the Sabbath therefore; for it is holy
unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death:
for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from
among His people.
15 Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the
Sabbath of rest, Holy to the Lord: whosoever doeth any work in the
Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.
16 Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the
Sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a
perpetual covenant.
17 It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for
ever: for in six days the Lord made Heaven and Earth, and on the
seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.
Throughout the book of Leviticus, you can learn about the solemn feast days of the Lord that were also named as Sabbath days, and were to be honored in the same way as the seventh day Sabbaths. Of course each feast day had its own special offerings, sacrifices, celebrations and meetings that were designated for each separate feast. There was even a Sabbath of the land, where the children of Israel did not plant each seventh year to give the land rest.
Is the Sabbath Day of Rest Applicable Today?
So, are Christians supposed to be keeping this Biblical Sabbath in the Bible law and these customs? Paul teaches no to let any man judge you ... you belong to Christ, let Him be your only Judge. The Scripture above stated ... "This is the fourth commandment that God gave to the children of Israel concerning the Sabbath". He gave that command to the Israelites. Not to Christians. Read on and you will see what is written concerning the Christians versus the Israelite Laws:
16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or
in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath
days:
17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is
of Christ.
18 Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary
humility and worshipping of Angels, intruding into those things which
he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
19 And not holding the Head, from which all the body by
joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together,
increaseth with the increase of God.
20 Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments
of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to
ordinances,
21 (Touch not; taste not; handle not;
22 Which all are to perish with the using;) after the
commandments and doctrines of men?
23 Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will
worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body: not in any honour
to the satisfying of the flesh.
Sabbath Day in the Bible Vs the Lord's Day Laws
New Testament - Biblical Sabbath Day of Rest
We are now living in the days of the New Testament which is the New Covenant where God has put the law into our hearts ... Not necessarily a different law, but rather a spiritual understanding of the same law, that focuses on righteousness rather than procedure. We are still to keep the Sabbath Day of Rest ... Holy, but Jesus made it clear, that if any work you do on the Sabbath Day of Rest is for good, by all means, do good.
It is lawful to do well on the Sabbath day of Rest.
10 And, behold, there was a man which had his hand
withered. And they asked Him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the
Sabbath days? that they might accuse Him.
11 And He said unto them, What man
shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall
into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift
it out?
12 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore
it is lawful to do well on the Sabbath days.
13 Then saith He to the man, Stretch
forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was
restored whole, like as the other.
Biblical Sabbath Bible Study Truth ... The Sabbath Day of Rest was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath Day of Rest. Our loving Father did not growl inside of Himself, saying, I'll make one day each week with strict rules so that I can, arghhhhh, make my children grieved in their heart if they disobey.
Sabbath Day in the Bible Vs the Lord's Day Vow
Oh, no no no. Knowing our fragile frame, our Father created the Sabbath Day of Rest for us to rest from the toil of the world, and refresh ourselves in holiness for one day, taking special time to reach out and pull ourselves closer after six days of the world pulling us away from Him, so that we have the strength to face another week.
23 And it came to pass, that He went through the corn
fields on the sabbath day; and His disciples began, as they went, to
pluck the ears of corn.
24 And the Pharisees said unto Him, Behold, why do they on
the sabbath day that which is not lawful?
25 And He said unto them, Have ye
never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he,
and they that were with him?
26 How he went into the house of God in the days of
Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not
lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were
with him?
27 And He said unto them, The Sabbath
was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:
28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath.
It's just hard to argue with Truth. Jesus silences the accusers:

Sabbath Day in the Bible Vs the Lord's Day Timing
1 And He entered again into the synagogue; and there was a
man there which had a withered hand.
2 And they watched Him, whether He would heal him on the
Sabbath day; that they might accuse Him.
3 And He saith unto the man which had the withered hand,
Stand forth.
4 And He saith unto them, Is it lawful
to do good on the Sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to
kill? But they held their peace.
And all the people rejoiced.
11 And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of
infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no
wise lift up herself.
12 And when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him, and said
unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine
infirmity.
13 And He laid His hands on her: and immediately she was
made straight, and glorified God.
14 And the ruler of the synagogue answered with
indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the Sabbath day, and
said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work:
in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day.
15 The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the Sabbath loose
his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?
16 And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham,
whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this
bond on the Sabbath day?
17 And when He had said these things, all His adversaries
were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things
that were done by Him.
