Let us begin our Enoch Bible study journey ... Many Christians and non-Christians have never even heard of the fascinating Enoch book or of the prophet Enoch, for that matter, much less the peculiar Enoch Bible verses (which we will discuss later in this study) and those who have do have many questions about the similarities between the Enoch Book and the Bible. The prophet Enoch book has many who read it believe the Enoch book to be an authentic prophecy of coming events.
Who was Enoch in the Bible?
Book of Enoch Bible Study
As we begin our who is Enoch in the Bible exploration, we find that the prophet Enoch was the seventh person in the bloodline from the first man, who God created, named Adam in the Bible. It is written within the Bible that the prophet Enoch ... Walked with God. Wow. How cool, huh? Many believe that "Walked with God" means that he was taken to Heaven by God and others believe that it simply means that he walked with God here on Earth, by serving God. The Scripture itself reveals the Truth. You decide:
Genesis 5:24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.
I will let you ponder on that Enoch Scripture and we will discuss this Enoch in the Bible clue, in more detail, in a bit. As we press forward into the book of Enoch and the Bible, we will uncover some extremely intriguing and very frightening events that are predicted to come soon, according to the Enoch book which speaks of the Heavenly and not so Heavenly Angels and gives detailed descriptions and explains the Angel's various administrations.
Who is Enoch in the Bible to God?
The prophet Enoch book also possesses valuable End Times information that we will compare with Bible Scripture seeking similarities and confirmation. There are some writings who many claim were written by the prophet Enoch and these writings were passed down through the generations, much like the Bible was.
But, is that the Truth?
Please note:
In the Book of Enoch and the Bible study, we will be providing an interpretation of the contents of the Book of the prophet Enoch only because it is suggested by many to be a copy of the authentic works. However we do not suggest that anyone adhere to anything but that which is written in God's Word (The Bible) and we only share the prophet Enoch in the Bible data as to not be negligent in sharing something that is available, in the event that the prophet Enoch Scripture does possess truth.
It is the Enoch Bible verses which caused us to share certain aspects of the book of Enoch Bible study with you.
And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of His Saints.
The Book of Enoch and the Bible - Jude
The Enoch Scripture suggests that Jude was referring to the writings of Enoch in the Bible which gives validity to the claims that Enoch did have some type of Enoch literature besides the Biblical Enoch Scripture that he was referring to, back in his day. Let's take an Enoch Bible study field trip as to learn more about ... Enoch in the Bible.
Now, the Truth is that the Enoch Bible verses actually tell us little of this individual named Enoch. So we will really focus on what was given to us. As we shared before, he was the seventh in the bloodline from Adam. The prophet Enoch was on Earth before Noah's flood.
To give you an idea of the timing of his presence on Earth ... Enoch had a child named Methuselah (The longest living human) who had a son named Lamech who was the eighth descendant from Adam. Lamech was the father of Noah. So, according to the Book of Genesis, it was Enoch then Lamech, and then Noah. Therefore ... Enoch was the great grandpa of Noah.
21 And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat
Methuselah:
22 And Enoch walked with God after he begat
Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:
23 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and
five years:
24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God
took him.
25 And Methuselah lived an hundred eighty and seven years, and begat Lamech.
26 And Methuselah lived after he begat Lamech seven hundred eighty and two years, and begat sons and daughters:
27 And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died.
28 And Lamech lived an hundred eighty and two years, and begat a son:
29 And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the Lord hath cursed.
Enoch walked with God and did not die but was rather "taken by God," This is confirmed by Paul answering the question ... Who was Enoch in the Bible according to the Lord? The answer is that He was God's property. A chosen vessel of God.
By faith Enoch in the Bible was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
The Prophet Enoch Bible Study Point of Interest ... Much of the Enoch book has stories related to Biblical Scripture and some of the Bible Scripture is in harmony with the words in the prophet Enoch Scripture.
For example this story:
1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the
face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that
they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
3 And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive
with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred
and twenty years.
4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and
also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of
men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men
which were of old, men of renown.
5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the
earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was
only evil continually.
6 And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the
earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
The Book of Enoch and the Bible Story Time ... The mysterious Enoch Bible verses KJV reveal that before the flood of Noah's time, there were some Angels who came down from Heaven and had children with human women and mixed the Angelic with humanity.
In the Enoch Book Chapters 6-16, it speaks of the same story, but elaborates a little more as to what happened next. It says the rebellious Angels who chose to leave Heaven to have a union with human women were sentenced to Hell. Is there an Enoch in the Bible comparison?
Who is Enoch in the Bible according to Peter?
Peter says the same thing.
4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast
them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be
reserved unto judgment;
5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth
person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the
world of the ungodly;
In our Enoch Bible study we find that according to the Enoch Book:
These fallen Angels taught the world vanity, pride and taught them how to build weapons and every foul thing.
God saw that the world was foul after this and flooded the world. He took the fallen Angels and placed them in Hell. The children (the giants) of the human women and the fallen Angels are now these evil spirits.
The Book of Enoch and the Bible trivia time ... Is it coincidence that Peter and other writers in the Bible echoed the words in the Enoch Book? There are two variations of the book of Enoch, One is designated as I Enoch, (Also called the Ethiopic Enoch) to distinguish it from the later Apocalypse writings known as "The Secrets of Enoch" which is also known as II Enoch which is the Slavonic Enoch, after the languages of the earliest versions extant of each respectively. The Book of Enoch, like the Book of Daniel, was written originally in Aramaic and partly in Hebrew. No copy of the original language of either is known to be in existence. Latin and Greek versions have only in part been discovered but the Ethiopic Version has been preserved in twenty-nine manuscripts.
In seeking the truth of Enoch in the Bible ... The Enoch manuscript upon which this translation was made was found in Ethiopia, in 1768, by the Scotsman, James Bruce. An interesting account by Charles F. Potter, concerning this discovery appeared in the Dec 7, 1935 edition of "Liberty" magazine which reads as Follows:
" ... In the mountain fastness of Ethiopia there was preserved for thirteen centuries a precious manuscript which not only throws much light on the Bible but which also was itself in the Bible for five centuries and which should be restored to the canon of Holy Writ. The story is a fascinating one. When Frumentius, or some one else, translated the Bible into Ethiopic, or Geez, as it was then called, in the fourth century, the canon, (or books of the Bible recognized by the Church as the inspired rule of faith and practice) had not yet been determined.
We find within our Enoch Bible study that for more than a century, scholars and church officials debated as to whether or not certain gospels, epistles and apocalypses should be included. For instance, it was long debated which to include in the canon, the Book of Revelation, or the Enoch Book, which had been accepted as Scripture by Jesus and Paul, and the whole Christian Church, for several centuries. Revelation finally won out, and became the last book of the Bible. The Enoch Book with the prophet Enoch scripture, under a stigma because deemed uncanonical, gradually dropped out of use, and finally disappeared. It sure seems like Enoch in the Bible is genuine and maybe the Enoch book is as well.
As time went on, scholars of the more intelligent sort desired more and more to see a copy of it. But there was none to be had. Centuries passed. A student of Arabic, on James Bruce, Scotsman, cherished the idea that the lost Enoch Book still existed in an Ethiopic version.
Who was Enoch in the Bible to Researchers?
In 1768 he went to Ethiopia and six years later returned to London with three manuscripts of the Ethiopic Enoch, one of which he left to the British Museum. For over half a century Bruce's precious manuscript remained on the shelves of the British Museum before it was translated by Richard Laurence, Archbishop of Cashel, Professor of Hebrew in the University of Oxford. Even then it was not until the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries that Canon R.H. Charles' translation and comment called the attention of scholars to the "immeasurable" importance of this document ..."
"This precious Enoch book throws much light on the thinking of our Lord Jesus, also St. Paul. Both regarded it as sacred scripture and quoted from it. Our gratitude to the Ethiopians could be expressed by restoring to it's proper place in our Bible this important and extremely valuable Ethiopic Enoch."
According to Canon Charles, the various elements of which the Enoch Book in its present form is made up belong to different dates. Thus one can expect a diversity of authorship, and of this there can be no shadow of doubt. However, while there is not unity of authorship there is, none the less, uniformity. Several scholars suggest we should speak of the collection as the "Books" of Enoch, not the "Book" of Enoch.
Some of the authors of the Enoch Book (and there were many) belonged to the true succession of the prophets, and it was simply owing to the evil character of the period, in which their lot was cast, that they were obliged to issue their works pseudonymously. The Law which claimed to be the highest and final word from God could tolerate no fresh message from God, so when men were moved by the Spirit of God to make known their visions relating to the past, the present, and the future they did so under some ancient name.
Not only does the Enoch Book come from many writers and almost as many periods, it touches upon every subject that could have arisen in the ancient schools of the prophets. Nearly every religious idea appears in a variety of forms and during the two centuries before the Christian era played an important role in the development of the Hebrew theology. Conflicting views are advanced on the Messiah, the Messianic kingdom, the origin of sin, Sheol, the final judgment, the resurrection, and the nature of the future life. There is an elaborate Angelology and demonology, and much space is devoted to the calendar and the heavenly bodies and their movements.
Concerning the Book of Enoch and the Bible ... The citations of Enoch by the Testaments of the Twelve Patriarchs and by the Book of Jubilees show that at the close of the second century B.C., and during the first century B.C., this book was regarded in certain circles as inspired. When we come down to the first century A.D., we find that it is recognized as Scripture by Jude (Jude 14). In the next century this recognition is given amply in the Epistle of Barnabas (16:5) and in the third century by Clement and Irenaeus. After the third century the Book of Enoch fell into discredit and gradually passed out of circulation.

These should be deemed as separate works. There is no reason to begin with the book that happens to come first, especially as the first 36 chapters do not all belong together.
