The 70th Week of Daniel Bible Study

The 70 Weeks Prophecy Explained

Daniel 9:24-27

24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for Himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

Wow ... The Daniel 70 Weeks prophecy seems mysterious and difficult to understand at first glance. But, we will walk through the Daniel 70 Weeks prediction to fully understand exactly what the 70 weeks of Daniel warning is all about and even when it is to occur. Let's break it down using Biblical bread crumbs left for us by various Scriptures. The term "week" is being used to describe a 7 year period.

So, since the Daniel 70 Weeks Prophecy in the Bible times the 7 years representing the word "week", it is equal to 490 years. The fearful and frightening last week is known as the 70th week of Daniel and is the final 7 years of that 490 year period. In the 70 weeks of Daniel Bible story, the prophet Daniel (He is one of the four major prophets in the Bible) shares a bit more about his vision from God with us. You may want to take notes because there is definitely a test coming which will be a time like never before and this test is called the 70th week of Daniel:

Daniel 9:25

Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

Uh huh ... So doing a lil Daniel 70 Weeks prophecy math, we must find the date that "the commandment to restore and to rebuild Jerusalem" occurred on, for us to use that date as a starting point of the 70 weeks of Daniel (490 years), as to determine when the frightening events of the 70th week of Daniel will occur. Sounds easy enough. Again, we will use Scripture and even history books to confirm this very important date. C'mon, let's put on our thinking caps and head back in time as to determine the future.

Nehemiah 2:1-8

1 And it came to pass in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that wine was before him: and I took up the wine, and gave it unto the king. Now I had not been beforetime sad in his presence.
2 Wherefore the king said unto me, Why is thy countenance sad, seeing thou art not sick? this is nothing else but sorrow of heart. Then I was very sore afraid,
3 And said unto the king, Let the king live for ever: why should not my countenance be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers' sepulchres, lieth waste, and the gates thereof are consumed with fire?
4 Then the king said unto me, For what dost thou make request? So I prayed to the God of Heaven.
5 And I said unto the king, If it please the king, and if thy servant have found favour in thy sight, that thou wouldest send me unto Judah, unto the city of my fathers' sepulchres, that I may build it.
6 And the king said unto me, (the queen also sitting by him,) For how long shall thy journey be? and when wilt thou return? So it pleased the king to send me; and I set him a time.
7 Moreover I said unto the king, If it please the king, let letters be given me to the governors beyond the river, that they may convey me over till I come into Judah;
8 And a letter unto Asaph the keeper of the king's forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the palace which appertained to the house, and for the wall of the city, and for the house that I shall enter into. And the king granted me, according to the good hand of my God upon me.

Well now ... According to history books, the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king was 445 B.C.

The Angel told Daniel, that from the date of the order to rebuild Jerusalem, unto the arrival of the long awaited Messiah would be 69 of the 70 weeks of Daniel (483 years). So, the Angel shared with Daniel that from 445 B.C. to this coming Messiah would be 483 years.

There are 360 days in a Jewish year. Based on this, it is 483 years or 173,880 days from the order to rebuild Jerusalem unto this long awaited Messiah ... When one does the math, it is astonishing to find that the time period ends the exact day that Jesus rode into Jerusalem, just days before His crucifixion and resurrection proving Jesus is the Messiah.

Quite awesome ... But, remember, this 70 weeks prophecy study is called the 70th week of Daniel because that is the 7 year time period that truly concerns us. So, let's recap ... We just found out that 69 of those 70 weeks of Daniel (483 years) had passed at the time Jesus arrived. But ... A total of 70 weeks or 490 years was predicted by the Angel in Verse 24, to bring in Everlasting Righteousness and anoint the most Holy.

Since we discovered that it was only 483 years from the order to rebuild Jerusalem, to the day Jesus entered Jerusalem, that leaves this extra 70th week which is the 7 year period. The question then becomes ... When does the 70th Week of Daniel begin? I mean, it certainly did not occur yet or we would have an era of Everlasting Righteousness.

There is a simple explanation for this. The Bible makes it clear that when Jesus was crucified and resurrected, that Israel's "time clock" stopped and it now began a time period known as the "Time of the Gentiles."

Luke 21:24

And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

Romans 11:25

For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles be come in.

It is the period of time which begins after Jesus' Resurrection but before the 70th week of Daniel. So, from the Time of Jesus' Resurrection to these End Times is the period of time known as the Time of the Gentiles which is a time where Gentiles (individuals from any nation other than Israel) have been given the opportunity to accept Jesus as their Savior. How do we know that the Time of Gentiles didn't begin until the death of Jesus?

Matthew 10:5-7

These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And as ye go, preach, saying, The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.

As you can see, the Lord has allotted a specified period of time for the Gentiles to accept Jesus as their Savior which began at His Resurrection and the start of the New Covenant and continues until the End Times.

Galatians 4:4-5

But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth His Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

This fullness of time refers to the time Jewish people who were under law given by Moses.

John 1:17

For the law was given by Moses, but Grace and Truth came by Jesus Christ.

Of course, if you read Romans, Chapter 11 ... You'll find that one of God's chosen people of Israel can be saved during the Time of the Gentiles as well. The New Covenant (which would include the Gentiles) could not begin until the Testator of it ... Died:

Hebrews 9:15-17

And for this cause He [Jesus] is the mediator of the New testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.

That is why there is an Old Testament and a New Testament in the Bible. So, in the 70 Weeks prophecy ... The Time of the Gentiles began after the 69 weeks of the 70 weeks of Daniel and then the Resurrection of Jesus occurred. We need a calendar of events, don't we?

The 70 Weeks Prophecy & the 70th Week of Daniel Date

The starred items below correspond with the items in the chart above with the same amount of stars.

*

Genesis 5:32

And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

This means Noah began having his three sons at age 500. They were not triplets.

Ham was youngest so they were not all born at age 500.

Genesis 9:24

And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him.

This is further proven because Arphaxad was born when Shem was age 100 (which was 2 years after the Flood).

Genesis 11:10

These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood:

**

Genesis 11:26

And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

Terah lived 70 years and begat his three sons.

Like Noah though, they were not all born at same time, this is just when he began having children. They were not triplets.

So, we must search the scriptures a little as to discern Terah's age, when he had Abram (not when he started having his children).

We know that Terah died when he was 205:

Genesis 11:32

And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.

The very next verse in the Bible reveals that once Abram's Dad died, God called Abram to leave Haran.

Genesis 12:1

Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

This is confirmed again:

Acts 7:4

Then came he [Abram] out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and dwelt in Charran [Haran]: and from thence, when his father [Terah] was dead, He [God] removed him [Abram] into this land, wherein ye now dwell.

Abram was 75 years old when he left Haran just after Terah died.

Genesis 12:4

So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

Doing the math ... Terah was 205 when he died.
Abram was 75 when he left Haran after Dad died.

205 - 75 = 130

Terah was 130 years old when Abram was born.

So, the timeline would be ... 2121 B.C. - 130 = 1991 B.C. = Abram's birth.

***

Genesis 12:4

So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

Exodus 12:40-41

40 Now the sojourning of the children of Israel, who dwelt in Egypt, was four hundred and thirty years.
41 And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years, even the selfsame day it came to pass, that all the hosts of the Lord went out from the land of Egypt.

Acts 7:6

And God spake on this wise, That his seed should sojourn in a strange land; and that they should bring them into bondage, and entreat them evil four hundred years.

Galatians 3:16-17

16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.

The time between the promise made to Abraham when he left Haran headed for the Promised land and the Law (Old Covenant) given to Moses in the wilderness after the Exodus was 430 years.

****

Time of Judges

Acts 13:16-22

16 Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, give audience.
17 The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm brought he them out of it.
18 And about the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness.
19 And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Chanaan, he divided their land to them by lot.
20 And after that he gave unto them judges about the space of four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet.
21 And afterward they desired a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of forty years.
22 And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave their testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.

Paul shares that after the exodus that there were judges for about 450 years.

Elijah was a prophet in and around 875 B.C.

The 70th Week of Daniel Discovery

The 70 Weeks Prophecy of Time of Gentiles

We see that Abraham who was called by God to become the Father of God's chosen people, was born around 2000 AA. If God's chosen people of that time period got from 2000 AA until 4000 AA which is 2000 years then that would suggest that 2000 years would be given as the Time of the Gentiles as well.

In short, the Jewish people received a certain amount of time to choose God, but chose their selfish ways instead and then Jesus was sent from Heaven, but the Jewish people did not accept Him as Lord. Their time period stopped. The Bible says that at this time all other nations and races (Gentiles) would receive the same amount of time (2000 years) to accept the Lord. THEN the 70th week of Daniel would begin.

When the "Gentiles" time period ends, it will bring about the last "week" or seven year period that we spoke of earlier. This 7 year period of time is called ...

The End Times

It is interesting that in the Book of Revelation, the Antichrist reigns terror for 3½ years (Chapter 13) ... The two witnesses prophecy for 3½ years (Chapter 11) ... and, the woman in the wilderness is hidden for 3½ years (Chapter 12) ... Is it not coincidental that 3½ years is exactly half of 7 years?

It is obvious that the End Times are split into two, 3½ year periods.

(The 7 remaining years from the 490 years.)

There will be an End Times period for the Gentiles, then a gathering and "Rapture" of those believing Christians. Then an End Times period for the Israelites and a gathering and a "Rapture" for the Jewish believers and those who became Christians during the second 3½ years.

Daniel 9:26-27

26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

The 70th Week of Daniel Summary

The 70 Weeks Prophecy Is Clear

The 70th week of Daniel Bible prophecy tells us of the people of the prince that shall come (Antichrist's Empire) that will be confirming a covenant(deal or treaty) with Israel for 7 years, but will then break the peace covenant in the midst of the 7 years and set out to destroy Israel. This simply means that some entities or nation(s) will confirm or agree with a peace treaty made between Israel and another entity and then this other entity will break the peace deal during the 7 year time period.

Coincidentally, many so called "peace treaties" have been attempted between Israel and other Muslim nations brokered by the United States, the United Nations and other major countries as of late. One of them will be the ... False Peace Treaty spoken of by Daniel in prophecy.

Daniel 70 Weeks Prophecy Warning ... In short, beware of any peace treaty made with Israel (Especially with the ongoing Middle East issues) because the 70 weeks of Daniel Bible verses have been quite clear concerning the Biblical warning of the 70th week of Daniel (Last seven years) beginning at the time of this particular false peace covenant. It will be at that time that the End Times events begin. Watch for all of the expected signs. Don't be scared, Get prepared.
