The Jordan River in the Bible Truth
Joshua Jordan River Bible Story

Delighted to have you back here at Daily Bread as we continue our study of the book of Joshua. You can imagine the delighted anticipation of the children of Israel at this moment in history ... The Promised Land, at last.

When it was finally time to cross the Jordan into the Promised Land, the officers of the tribes went through the camp and told the people, When you see the Levite priests carrying the ark, follow after it, but stay back about 2000 cubits (about ½ mile) so that you'll know the way, because you've never been this way before.

Joshua told the people, Ready yourselves, because tomorrow, the Lord will do miracles for you. he told the priests to pass over before the people, and the Lord told Joshua, Today I will honor you in the eyes of all Israel, so they will know that I am with you, just as I was with Moses. Tell those carrying the ark to stand still when they come to the rivers edge.

Then Joshua told the people, By this you will know that the living God is among you, and that He will drive the heathen out of the land before you. The ark goes ahead of you into Jordan. Now select one man out of each of the twelve tribes and as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests carrying the ark stand still in the waters of Jordan, the water will part.

Just as the Lord parted the waters of the Red Sea when Moses led the children of Israel out of Egypt, He once again parted the waters of the River Jordan as Joshua led them into the Promised Land.

The priests stood on dry ground in the middle of Jordan until all the children of Israel passed over. That would pretty much clinch it for me ... I would be totally convinced that God was with Joshua, just like Moses, wouldn't you?
