Spiritual Wisdom & Biblical Wisdom Bible Verse Study on How to Get Wisdom in the Bible Quest

Glad you're back for another edition of Daily Bread. At the end of our last study, Paul was explaining how those called by God are not people with worldly wisdom, great strength, or highly respected people of the world.

But look at those same three things; wisdom, strength and respect; and you'll notice that the called of God do possess them, yet in unworldly ways. They have wisdom of God, they have strength from the power of the Holy Spirit, and they have glory in the Lord.

The world is burdened with competition for these things. It's become an obsession to be intellectual, strong and well liked. Is that what God wants from us? Is anyone who has a worldly abundance of these things any closer to God than you are? If you're searching for the Godly form of these things to prevail in your life, then you're on the right path.

Paul guides us in the right direction with his good example. He flat out tells the Corinthians that when he visited them, he didn't come speaking with impressive vocabulary, big words and great wisdom. He says he purposely didn't claim to know much except that his faith was solid in believing in Jesus Christ and the salvation He freely gives us.

He admits that he was scared and trembling and didn't talk with finesse, but the Holy Spirit spoke through him with passion so that they wouldn't put their faith in the wisdom of men, but could sense the power of God.

1 Corinthians 2:6-9

6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect [mature in Christ]: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes [rulers] of this world, that come to nought [nothing]:
7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:
8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
9 But as it is written ... [Paul then recites the following scripture]

Isaiah 64:4

For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for Him.

Have you noticed that the word "perfect" in the Bible isn't used the same way that we use it today? To be perfect, meant to be complete, or mature in your Faith. So, Paul's message is that when someone is firm in their Faith, then they can understand the wisdom of God, otherwise, it is foolishness to them.

It's time to change our thinking from humanly to spiritual now. Everyone has a spirit. What is your spirit? Your spirit is the part of you that could be called your emotions or your feelings. Your spirit comes from God.

Ecclesiastes 12:7

Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

Isaiah 42:5

Thus saith God the LORD, He that created the Heavens, and stretched them out; He that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; He that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein ...

Many people think that the spirit and the soul are the same thing, but, your mind (the soul) is what controls your spirit. Your mind tells your feelings and emotions to act and react to things.

Now, since you have a spirit, and you are one with God, then you have the Holy Spirit in you, so, you can understand the spiritual things of God (that would be the wisdom of God that Paul is talking about). Keep in mind that we are made in God's image, and He sent the Holy Spirit to teach us Truth.

John 14:26

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Okay, now back to what Paul was saying about the things that God has prepared for those who love Him. Man cannot understand those things ...

1 Corinthians 2:10-11

10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

This is a little hard to understand at first, so let's word it differently. Who knows your emotions and feelings better than your own spirit? Likewise no man knows God, like the Holy Spirit, and if the Spirit of God is in you, then ... You understand Spiritual things.

1 Corinthians 2:12-16

12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct Him? but we have the mind of Christ.

Job 15:8

Hast thou heard the secret of God? and dost thou restrain wisdom to thyself?

No, we cannot teach God anything and we cannot fathom what He knows ... The secret(s) of God. We cannot call wisdom our own. We did not acquire it or discover it of our own power. Wisdom comes from God James 1:5. But we have the mind of Christ! Through His Holy Spirit, we understand what He wants us to know.

John 15:15

Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

Have you ever wanted to explain something about God to someone, but you knew, that no matter what you said, they wouldn't understand it? Could that be the wisdom of God that you just read about?

You know that your explanation would sound like foolishness to them, no matter what words you used. But, if you understand something so perfectly, how come you can't put it into words? Maybe because it's a spiritual matter, and sometimes emotions and feelings are things that are not worldly or wordy.

Remember when Paul said in Romans that when we pray, the Holy Spirit makes intercession for us with groanings that cannot be uttered? You can think of the Holy Spirit, sort of as your interpreter, who takes your feelings and emotions that you can't put into words, because they're spiritual, and tells them to God. And it also works the other way too ...

Matthew 10:19-20

19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.
20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.
