Hey Y'all
I am a big fan of "Do It Yourself" stuff and would like to share some of our favorites.
If you think of ANYTHING you might like to see added please post what you wish! I am sure I've got something that will work.
Let's start with Fun Stuff as it has been a rainy Saturday here so lg n I have been having some fun
Kool Play Dough
2 c Boiling Water
2 1/2 c Flour
1 c Salt
3 tbsp Vegetable Oil
2 pk Kool-Aid or other non-sweetened Drink Mix
In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, drink mix and oil, stir together; add boiling water and mix for 2 minutes. This makes a LOT of dough. I generally spit it in half and make two colors, it is plenty for 3 or 4 little ones to have fun. Store in air tight containers or wrapped tightly with plastic wrap.
Crazy Putty
3/4 c White Glue (like Elmer's)
Liquid Starch
Food Coloring of choice
Place glue in a medium six bowl adding starch a little at a time until the mixture holds together firmly. Mix in a few drops of food coloring. Knead the putty with your fingers until the coloring is equally worked through. Store tightly in a sealed container and keep in the refrigerator. If it dries out, add a little water and knead together. Be sure to wash the bowl immediately... glue does weird stuff to dishes if left to dry.
Fun Drawing Face Paint
1 tsp Cornstarch
1/2 tsp Cold Cream
1/2 tsp Water
Food Coloring
Stir starch and cold cream together until well blended. Add water and stir again; fold in coloring of choice. Using a small paint brush, paint designs on child's face; remove with soap and water.
For Larger areas, say Jr wants to be yellow a banana or the sun for a school play use this recipe:
1 tbsp Solid Shortening (like crisco, uh huh I know)
2 tbsp Cornstarch
Food Coloring desired
Mix shortening and cornstarch together until smooth; add food coloring and blend well. Using a sponge or your fingertips, apply paint to child's face. Remove with soap and water. (the shortening helps prevent the face from absorbing color, live and learn) Unused portions of both should be stored in an airtight container.
Finger Paint
1/4 c Liquid Starch
1 tbsp Powdered Tempera Paint
Freezer Paper (paint on shiny side)
Pour liquid starch and powered paint into a small bowl. Mix until well blended. Using fingers or paint brushes paint explore your imagination and paint it on paper!
Sun Clay
2 c Salt
1 1/2 c Water
1 1/2 c Cornstarch
Food Coloring, optional
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, bring 1 cup of water to a boil; add salt. Continue to boil over medium, stirring constantly, until salt is dissolved. Gradually add cornstarch and mix until smooth. Add remaining 1/2 cup of water and mix until smooth; Let cool.
Place dough in a bowl and knead until no lumps remain. Test a small piece of the dough, it should be soft and smooth. If it crumbles, breaks or seems dry, add a small amount of water at a time until it reaches this consistency. Food Coloring can be added at this time.
Enjoy making your creations then allow clay to remain outside to dry in the sun. It may take a day or two depending on climate but when it dries, sun clay will not crack. Once dry, you can also paint dried creations with finger paint shared above.
Baby Wipes (awesome for clean up with above projects)
1 roll Paper Towels, your brand choice
2 c Water
2 tbsp Baby Oil
1 tbsp Baby Bath Soap
2 qt Rubbermaid (or similar) container with tight fitting lid
Place roll of paper towels upright in the container. Bring water to a boil, remove from heat and add baby oil and soap. Pour hot mixture down the core of the paper towels; remove the core (it will soften, in a minute or two). Allow to set undisturbed for about an hour; in this time the mixture will be fully absorbed by the paper towels. Keep Covered. To use, simply pull a towel from the core. Awesome for baby's with extra sensitive skin and it helps to prevent diaper rash.
Great for cleaning Art Projects from fingers, face, extremities and table tops as well!
Hope you enjoy these as much as we do!
Peace n Luv in Christ,
Lani
