Her chldren rise up
and call her blessed;
her husband also,
and he praises her.
__Proverbs 31:28

On Mother's Day, 2007, British national television ran an intriguing story. Peggy Bush's daugther had died, so Peggy absorbed the responsibility of caring for her daughter's three children while her son-in-law worked. Then, tragically, her son-in-law also died. With both parents gone, Peggy took her three grand-children in and raised them as if they were her own.
In a world where wrong is glamorized and the lurid is presented as appealing, we seldom hear of the good things that happen. Yet this woman's love and sacrifice were recognized, acknowledged, and honored as the nation took note of her as Britain's "Best Mum" for 2007.
Today is Mother's Day in the US. Most of the efforts, sacrifices, and expressions of love our mothers have given us will not be the lead story on the news. Their recognition will be more personal. But what matters is not the scope of the appreciation but its genuineness.
On this special day, may we thank God for the mothers who have molded our hearts. As we honor them, we fulfill the truth of Proverbs 31:28, "Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her."

************Today's Bible Reading __ Proverbs 31:10-12,28-31*******
10 Who can find a virtuous
wife? For her worth is far
above rubies.
11 The heart of her
husband safely trusts her
so he will have no lack of
gain.
12 She does him good and
not evil all the days of her
life....
28 Her children irse up and
call her blessed; her
husband also, and he
praises her:
29 "Many daughters have
done well, but you excel
them all."
30 Charm is deceitful and
beauty is passing, but a
woman who fears the LORD,
she shall be praised.
31 Give her of the fruit of
her hands, and let her own
works praise her in the
gates.

John Wesley began the Methodist movement that captured the
American frontier for Christ and did much to spread the faith all
around the world. His brother Charles wrote wonderful hymns that
inspired worship then and now. These remarkable men had an even
more remarkable mother. Susanna Wesley never preached a sermon
but is known as the Mother of Methodism. The spiritual heart and
discipline that she inculcated in her children set their feet on a path
where they were used mightily of the Lord. __Dennis Fisher
