HOLDING
YOUR HAND

READ:
Psalm 73
________________________________________________

One of the joys of being with kids is holding their hands. We do it to keep them safe while crossing the street, or to keep them from getting lost in a crowd. and whenever they stumble and lose their footing, we grab their little hands tighter to keep them from falling.

That's what God does for us. Inevitably there are stones and cracks that trip us up on the sidewalks of life. That's why it's easy to identify with the psalmist, who said, "My steps had nearly slipped" (Ps. 73:2).

We all face a variety of issues that threaten to make us stumble. For the psalmist Asaph, seeing the prosperity of the wicked caused him to question the goodness of God. But God squeezed his hand and reassured him that, given the judgment of God, the wicked do not really prosper. True prosperity, the psalmist discovered, was found in the fact that God was always with him: "You hold me by my right hand" (v.23). And just for good measure, God reminded him that He would also guide him through life and ultimately welcome him home to heaven (v.24). How good is that!

So, next time you stumble, remember that the powerful hand of God is holding your hand and walking you through life__all the way home!

Let God do the holding and you do the trusting.

****************Today's Bible Reading __ Psalm 73***************

1 Truly God is good to
Israel, to such as are pure in
heart. 2 But as for me, my
feet had almost stumbled;
my steps had nearly slipped.

3 For I was envious of the
boastful, when I saw the
prosperity of the wicked.

4 For there are no pangs in
their death, but their strength
is firm. 5 They are not in
trouble as other men, nor
are they plagued like other
men. 6 Therefore pride serves
as their necklace; violence
covers them like a garment.

7 Their eyes bulge with
abundance; they have more
than heart could wish. 8 They
scoff and speak wickedly
concerning oppression; they
speak loftily....

13 Surely I have cleansed
my heart in vain, and washed
my hands in innocence.

14 For all day long I have
been plagued, and chastened
every morning....

23 Nevertheless I am
continually with You; You
hold me by my right hand.

24 You will guide me with
Your counsel, and afterward
receive me to glory. 25 Whom
have I in heaven but You?
and there is none upon earth
that I desire besides You.

26 My flesh and my heart fail;
but God is the strength of my
heart and my portion forever.

27 For indeed, those who are
far from You shall perish;
You have destroyed all those
who desert You for harlotry.

26 But it is good for me to
draw near to God; I have put
my trust in the Lord God,
that I may declare all Your
works.

Asaph, one of David's three chief musicians (1 Chron. 6:31,39;
15:16-17; 16:4-5; 25:1-2), wrote 12 psalms that now bear his name
(Ps. 50, 73-83). Asaph was also a prophet (1 Chron. 25:2); also called
a "seer" in 2 Chron. 29:30). __Sim Kay Tee
