I love the prayer that begins, "God be in my head." When I first heard it, admittedly I thought it sounded a little weird. But then I got to thinking how unfortunate it is if in our efforts to get closer to Jesus we focus on our emotional experience of Him and check our brains at the door. Without His truth ringing in our heads, we're bound to get off track.

Just look at the early Christians. False teahcers filled their heads with misinformation, saying that salvation and spiritual growth could be attained only through keeping the requirements of the law. When Paul heard of it, he was astonished at how quickly they had gotten off track: "I marvel from Him who called you in th grace of Christ" (Gal. 1:6).

It's not just false teachers who lead us astray. Our world is full of twisted thinking like, "If it feels good, do it," or "The one with the most toys wins." Let's face it, you and I can't afford to check our brains at the door. In fact, intimacy with Jesus begins with getting to know Him, and it's the facts about Him that make us want to get close to Him.

So, strange as it may sound, if you want to stay on track with Jesus, start each day by asking Him to be in your head!

***************Today's Bible Reading __ Galatians 1:1-6***********

6 I marvel that you are
turning away so soon from
Him who called you in the
grace of Christ, to a different
gospel, 7 which is not
another; but there are some
who trouble you and want to
pervert the gospel of christ.

8 But even if we, or an angel
from heaven, preach any
other gospel to you than
what we have preached to
you, let him be accursed.

9 As we have said before, so
now I say again, if anyone
preaches any other gospel to
you than what you have
received, let him be
accursed.

The first Christians were Jewish. But as the gospel spread, more and
more non-Jews were coming into the church. This raised the issue of
the role of Judaism in the Christian faith. A group of Jewish teachers,
called the Judaizers, taught that Gentile Christians must become
Jews (ie., convert to judaism and follow jewish ceremonies and practices)
in order to be saved. Paul worte this letter to counter and condemn this false teaching (vv.8-9). Instead, teaching the doctrine
of justification by faith ("the just shall live by faith," Gal. 3:11),
Paul calls these early Christians to follow the law of grace, not the
Mosaic law. __Sim Kay Tee
