Not long ago, I traveled to the Democratic Republic of Congo to lead a Bible conference. I took in the beauty of the Nyungwe Forest and Ruzizi River, which separates Congo from Rwanda. I experienced the amazing hospitality of the Congolese people, and I was moved by their sincere faith in God's provision.

Because unemployment, poverty, and malnutrition are serious problems there, the people often don't know where their next meal will come from. So each time they sit down to eat, they thank God and ask Him to provide the next meal,

Their prayer sounds a lot like Jesus' prayer in Matthew 6:11, "Give us this day our daily bread." The word bread refers to any food. The phrase "this day" indicates provision that came to them one day at a time.

Many first-century workers were paid one day at a time. So a few days' illness could spell tragedy. "Daily" could be translated "for the coming day." The prayer would read: "Give us today our bread for the coming day." It was an urgent prayer to those who lived from hand to mouth.

This prayer calls Jesus' followers everywhere to recognize that our ability to work and earn our food comes from God's hand. __Marvin Williams

Our problems are never a strain on God's provision.

**************Today's Bible Reading __Matthew 6:9-13*************

9 In this manner, therefore,
pray:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.

10 Your kingdom come. Your
will be done on earth as it
is in heaven. 11 Give us this
day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we
forgive our debtors. 13 And
do not lead us into
temptation, but deliver
us from the evil one. For
Yours is the kingdom and
the power and the glory
forever. Amen.

Manna is a marvelous illustration of God's provision. The book of Numbers describes it this way: "Now the manna was like coriander seed, and its color like the color of bdellium. The people went about and gathered it, ground it on millstones or beat it in the mortar, cooked it in pans, and made cakes of it; and its taste was like the taste of pastry prepared with oil. And when the dew fell on the camp in the night, the manna fell on it" (11:7-9). For 40 years in the wilderness, Israel was sustained by this supernaturally provided food (Ex. 16:35). But the manna stopped immediately after they occupied the Promised Land. From then on, God sustained them with the produce of the land (Josh. 5:10-12). __HDF

How blessed we are. For most of us here in the USA our food source is a toss-up, hmmmmmmm what do I want, as opposed to what will He provide. Shall I be humbled today in my excess, or will I not notice all His blessings?

If I rely only on my natural mind, the will of my flesh, I'll not appreciate all His blessings. But if I humble myself before the Lord, and connect spirit to Spirit, I'll dine on my blessed Jesus and I'll feed others out of the excess of His blessings.

Thank you, Cimi, for posting this awesome message.

Love, hugs and His blessings to you,
Sister Mack
