Christianity Oasis Forum

This forum is for those souls 18 years and older who are dealing with some type of addictive behavior whether it be from alcohol, drugs, overeating, fear, worry, sex, etc. Only with help and guidance from God can we ever hope to overcome these addictions. What is impossible for us to do IS POSSIBLE with God. Friends and family of those stricken with addictions are welcome to share as this problem affects more than just the soul entangled in its web.

HALT

Postby susidivah » Tue Sep 08, 2009 4:59 pm

I wanted to share some things I've learned along the way thru support groups (such as Celebrate Recovery and SA) and my research for group therapy material... above all this knowledge spoke to me from His Truth that He made us white as snow and desires our emotion and attention :)

The acronym HALT stands for Hungry-Angry-Lonely-Tired. These are states of body and mind we want to be very careful of for if left for too long they can trigger lustful thoughts and actions.

However... His constant presence, promise, and love are even in these places...

Hungry- Jesus replied, "I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. (John 6:35 NLT)

Angry- The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. (Psalm 103:8 NLT)

Lonely (strength)- But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31 NLT)

Tired- So let's not get tired of what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don't give up. (Galatians 6:9 NLT)

God bless you all and remember one day at a time *Pray*
