Opinion on my book I'm writing

Hello everyone. My name is Betty. One of my big hobbies is writing. I used to write short stories and articles for a Christian publication many years ago. Now it is more of a hobby, as I am busy raising my three girls. But in the midst of my free time I felt God calling me to write a novel. I had the idea to write a novel about a woman who was born blind and grows up experiencing life as a blind person. One day, while attending church, she is miraculously healed. The rest of the story deals with her new perception on life and reaction to things she never thought were realities, things she can now see with her new eyesight. The entire story is essentially a metaphor for being born again and experiencing life with God in mind rather than worldly desires.

My question for everyone. I was considering adding an appendix of sorts to the end of the book, explaining my metaphor and maybe writing a mini-sermon on the subject, so that this book could be marketed as an evangelical resource as well as entertainment. The book is nowhere near completion, but I just had this on my mind and wanted to ask opinions. What do you think? Do you think it is too much adding the appendix or is it something that would increase the book's overall effectiveness?

That sounds like a really nice book. All I can say is, if God wants you to write an appendix, than write one =)

Believerbetty,

Hope you're still working on your book. As an aspiring author, I felt led to write a novel pleasing to God, as well, I just wanted to make one comment. Sometimes leaving the meaning of (or metaphor for) a story up to the reader encourages discussion and thought that might lead to deeper understanding/meaning/TRUTH that they might not reach if simply explained to them. Just a thought....
