Not just a candy cane

I wrote this to put in cards for my adult Sunday School class, along with a candy cane. The idea isn't new, but i wanted a poem of my own for it.

I'm giving you a candy cane because you are my friend,
Be sure you think about it, and read this til the end.
The candy cane is special, and it's meant to be
More than just a simple cane, look- what do you see?
Held upright a shepherd's crook, for the One who's Good and True.
Turned round it's a fisherman's hook, the Fisher who saved me and you.
You'll see "J" for Jesus also, the Savior who's the Way,
We were lost in sin you know- til He said He would pay.
But that's not all of this candy's delight,
Look at the colors, the red and the white.
The red for the blood, shed on the cross with such love,
The pure sinless white of the Holy Ghost dove.
Even the Church the cane represents-
The solid foundation that the Word presents.
So it's not just a candy cane that I give,
It's a symbol of Christ- the reason we live.
A simple gift, really - i know this is true,
But I give it in God's love- Merry Christmas to you.
