Then I will cut out cardboard, making a copy of it.

I will then use these card board pieces for my pattern to cut the gingerbread after rolling it flat.

Now, everything has to be edible so you have to think about what to use. Tootsie rolls and Mary Janes for rocks... pretzels for columns...colored coconut for grass... sugar cubes for foundation and necco wafers for the old part of the barn that was real stone... And the "glue" was royal icing.

Here is the second place winner

I was going to shore up my roof with lasagna (thank you brokenangel for that suggestion) but thought it looked good and didn't want to chance changing it but when I was picking one up, it broke. I glued a piece of precooked lasagna on it (yea, wondered if that was good but it was already flat without the ridges in it but got the regular lasagna just in case...good thing) and it started bending and ruined it so I had to think different and you see the result in the picture. Good thing it happen early because more broke when I got there so I had replacements ready.

It was funny because I decided to put the roof on there because it was delicate and then I usually finish stuff off. I let them know I was coming and was late so I was expected but she had to tell me I was finished to stop.
People get a kick out of watching you building it but some wanted me to talk to them... and you all know how I like to talk *BigGrin* I told one young girl that was in the contest in another catagory that I would talk to her when I was done. She was so cute and her family nice. I was able to give them some suggestions for next year.

One older woman said she thought this was a gingerbread contest. I said that it was and she commented that it didn't look like gingerbread. I said "I assure you it is" and she wandered off saying "That's not gingerbread" I wish I had thought about the extra pieces I had with me, I could have given her a taste. Actually, should have given all the extras I brought with me out so people could taste it...ended up throwing it away when I got home.

Wish I thought about finishing it after the judging...so it would look like I wanted it to in the first place...all well....

No Piney, it has to stay until the end, that's Sunday night.
By that time it's been sitting in an unconditioned barn, with the heat and humidity it usually doesn't survive the car ride home. Last year I didn't bother picking it up and she sent me the ribbon and judges' information in the mail.
