My Hero has a Purple Heart

Postby KelseyLong » Mon May 28, 2012 3:28 pm

This was written when I had a bad dream about my dad going to war and dying, which is every military family’s worst fear. The Purple Heart is awarded for "Being wounded or killed in any action against an enemy of the United States or as a result of an act of any such enemy or opposing armed forces.“ Although my dad, thankfully, has never been WIA, and more importantly, KIA, this poem is for every brave man and woman out there, dead or alive, with the Purple Heart.

Standing strong, in the face of

Adversity and always filled with

Courage and compassion, always

Ready to protect our country with

Inspiring dignity and showing the

Fierce fight America’s military

Inspires in everyday souls

Creating an

Everlasting mark

Counting on you to

Open new doors for your country and never

Unanswered will go your sacrifice because we

Realize that

America’s brave men and women

Go headfirst into battle with

Exemplary courage

Brave, ready, and

Remarkable you were

And always will be

Victorious and virtuous

Excellence is what you are

Rare qualities are what

You Possess

If you read closely you will notice the first letter in each stanza spells Sacrifice, Courage, and Bravery.
As a Christian, we will find struggles and hardships like no other, that is why Jesus died for me, that is why he died for YOU! Often times we find ourselves wondering, is this life worth living? I thought I got a great deal when I signed up for this. But here is a reality check, we did not just sign up, we chose to LIVE! God gives us tests, to prove ourselves to him and so we can grow stronger, that is why our hardships are truly blessings in disguise. So count both your hardships and blessings
