Return to victories He won for you
Revisiting victories He's given you
Judges 14:5-9
Then Samson went down with his father and mother to Timnah, and they came to the vineyards of Timnah. And behold, a young lion came toward him roaring. Then the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon him, and although he had nothing in his hand, he tore the lion in pieces as one tears a young goat.
But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done. Then he went down and talked with the woman, and she was right in Samson’s eyes. After some days he returned to take her. And he turned aside to see the carcass of the lion, and behold, there was a swarm of bees in the body of the lion, and honey. He scraped it out into his hands and went on, eating as he went. And he came to his father and mother and gave some to them, and they ate. But he did not tell them that he had scraped the honey from the carcass of the lion.
When God gives us a victory along the way in our journey of life it's a wonderful thing. A huge rejoicing. The inital thrill and joy is beyond description and we bask and sit in the glow of it just as long as we can. But time moves on and other trials and challenges arise. Life moves on and we live on. Victories with their glow, no matter how great at the time, begin to fade slowly away. Not forgotten but just filed away for future reference. These files are oh so important.
When we kill a lion, that is have through Jesus a wonderful success, we rejoice. Then later, even years - most especially after years - we, like Samson, go back to visit that lion. That victory. Some are so pleasant that we visit them on a regular basis, especially if our spirit needs a lift. When we revisit the memory of that filed away triumph, we discover a sweet treasure awaiting us, and we feast again on the tremendous thing that God has done for us just as if it were new. This is what we are supposed to see in Samson's revisitation of the place where he killed the lion.
As I write this those few of you who read will also remember great things that God has accomplished in, for and through you. This particular wonderful scriptural insight was shared with me decades ago by my late good friend and co-worker, Earl Thomas. Jesus took Earl to be with Him when Earl was just in His forties. He left four fine daughters at home for his wife to raise. Earl was a very humble, quiet man and also a pentecostal preacher. The remembrance of him sharing this insight about the lion and the honey is for me a revisitation to a sweet time. A time when we used to lunch together under the summer shade of the cool breeze whipped willows on the banks of the Arkansas above Little Rock. We shared the Lord there many days while the Red Winged Blackbirds trilled back in the shadows.
Take the time to revisit those great victories and as you can, share them with others. It will be a sweet visitation many can share in. Quite often a great victory to us might seem a very small thing in the world's view but you and the Lord know it's truly a great triumph. Nothing God does is small. To Jesus it's all a "light" thing, but they are mighty things to us who are delivered by Him.
Luke 24:19
And he said to them, "What things?" And they said to him, "Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people"...
He wants to hear" what things" and we are to speak of His mighty acts as we come in, as we go out, as we walk by the way, as we work, as we play and as we move in life wherever we go. As we do we will experience the sweet anointing that comes as we revisit the triumphs He won for our good and His glory.
