Genesis 1 question (Looking for a little help here)
Posted: Thu Jul 05, 2012 8:11 pmOk, so awhile back I began going through Genesis, again. Not sure what it was, but I just wanted to get deeper. I went verse by verse and really looked into the meaning of words and spent a good deal of time going through the book. Right off the bat something struck me as odd! Something I guess I had never noticed before. A question: Why did God separate the light from the darkness twice? Check it out. In Gen 1:3-4 and then again in Gen 1:14-18. This just didn't make sense to me. What God does cannot be undone right, so why would he have to do this twice, unless there was more to this than appears. I didn't find an answer and instead of getting bogged down I decided to make a note of it and pray about it and see what happens.
Several months later, while going through Proverbs, I came upon another passage that perpelxed me and brought that question back to my mind. In Proverbs 8 we see series of comments about wisdom. Then in 8:12 it seems to shift from being about wisdom, to wisdom speaking as if a being of some kind. Then in 8:22 "Wisdom" makes some interesting comments. (22)"The Lord possessed me at the beginning of His works, the first of His acts of old. (23)Ages ago I was set up, at the first, before the beginning of the earth." It goes on for several verses describing how "wisdom" was there through all of creation. Immediately my mind jumped to Paul's words in 1 Cor 1:18-31. Here Paul, twice describes Christ as the "wisdom of God". So I started thinking. We know Christ was in the beginning. John 1 tells us that. We know he was always there and was not created. So how does that work with that "Let there be" statement. Well as it would happen, let there be comes from the Hebrew - Hayah and while it can mean to become, it can mean many things....and can seem to imply an already present existence. Which was starting to make this make more sense. Since John 1 also tells us that Jesus was the true light that gives light to all mankind, I made a deduction. The light in Gen 1:3-4 is not light like comes from the sun....in fact that isn't consistent with the original text which by the way is different for the light in 14-18. This is the light, without refernce to a source.
So my question is this! Do you think it would make sense that Genesis 1:3-4 is God introducing His Son to His creation? The true light of life!
