The Green Mystery

Postby Angelwings » Tue Aug 30, 2011 11:47 am

*Halo* Mom, my whole body hurts. I feel like I have been burned. Oh mom! The pain is so bad! Mom, make it stop please!" My mom was standing in the doorway of an empty room crying and looking at the empty bed. I didn't understand what was going on. "Mom! Can't you hear me? I'm right here! What's going on?"

I woke up to the sound of pots and pans rattling in the kitchen and the smell of pancakes made me jump out of bed immediately and ran down to the kitchen.

“Plain or blueberry,” mom asked.

“Blueberry please.”

“Coming right up.”

My mom always cooked breakfast in the morning. It was our mother daughter time. After I ate, I went to my room and got ready for school. I walked downstairs and saw mom and dad laughing in the kitchen. I was one of the few lucky kids in my school that did not have divorced parents.

Dad was always so curious about what I was learning at school, but being I am only eight years old, I don’t learn much. Spelling and simple math is all that I really learn.

“Hey kiddo. How is school treating you,” dad asked

“It’s good dad. I made a new friend yesterday. His name is Chase.”

“Glad you’re being social able for once kid. Well daddy has to go to work. See you tonight.”

“Bye daddy.”

Mom told me to go upstairs and get everything I need for school so we could leave. I went upstairs in my room and I noticed the picture I had of my mom, my dad, and I. We were walking through the park one day and a random photographer asked us if we would like to take a picture. We said yes, so my mom got on my left side and my dad on my right. The photographer waited for us to figure out how we wanted to pose for our picture. We took the picture with my parents looking down at me and I was looking up at them. I was lost in the middle of a flashback of that day when I heard my mom yell at me to come downstairs because we were running late.

“Did you understand the reading today,” I asked Chase

“No. It all sounded like another language to me,” said Chase.

“Hope we don’t have a test on it because we are both going to fail.”

“Hey, want a hot dog?”

“Yea, sure,”

Chase and I walked across the street. There was a long line at the hot dog stand so Chase and I sat down on the bench to wait for the long line to get shorter.

“So, what you doing this weekend,” Chase asked.

“Um, I’m not sure yet. It is only Wednesday.”

“Oh, well if you want, I am having a birthday party at my house if you want to come.”

“Okay Chase, I’ll ask my mom as soon as I get home.”

Chase and I noticed an odd, green eighteen-wheeler park next to the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, which were only a few yards away from where Chase and I were sitting. We knew something was wrong when we saw the driver get out the truck hastily and get into a black van that quickly pulled away from the building. We sat there looking at each other trying to think what could have been so important to leave that fast. Suddenly I heard a noise coming from the truck. It sounded like one of the tires was losing air. I went walk near the truck and noticed it wasn’t coming from the tires.

Everything I see is just a blur. All I can see is smoke, flashing lights, and I hear people screaming out in pain. I was lying on the street crying out in pain. Why does it hurt so much? Where is Chase? All I could remember was walking up next to this eighteen-wheeler, and then I wake up lying here. What’s going on? I felt someone pick my head up and ask me if I could understand him. I told him yes and I remember him and lying my head on his knees and yelling for help. Next thing I see is the picture of me and my parents on my desk. That’s all I remember before I completely blacked out.

I was not fully conscience but I could hear my mom talking to someone on the phone with someone else and I could hear her crying. She was explaining things that you would only hear from a doctor. Some of the stuff she was saying was really confusing to me. When my mom finally realized I was awake she started asking me all kinds of questions. She was speaking to fast for me to understand, but the last thing I heard was, “Oh thank God you are ok.”

“My why am I in this bed? What happened? Where’s Chase,” I asked.

Mom just told me to calm down and relax, so I did and I fell back asleep.

I woke up again but this time I find myself standing in the doorway of a hospital room. I saw my mom sitting there and looking the bed. I didn’t understand why my mom was just sitting there staring at an empty bed. The doctor came in and basically walked through me and went to my mom. I couldn’t really understand what he was saying to my mom but I made out one sentence. “I know this is going to be heard for you to take, but your daughter is not going to make it through the treatment.” I saw my mom fall to her knees and cry hysterically. I started to think about what was happening. Did the doctor just say that “I” wasn’t going to make it through the surgery? I was standing right here. “Mom, I’m right here. Mom I made it out of the surgery. Mom? Can’t you hear me? Mom I’m right here!” I was getting mad. Why couldn’t my mom hear me? I still have no idea what is going on here and in the back of my mind I was still wondering where Chase was.

I see a bright light in the corner of the room. Then suddenly I realized what had happened. It was coming back to me. I remember walking to that strange truck trying to figure out what that noise was. I remember it sounding like the tire was losing air, but then I found out that it was coming from the trailer. I tried running away and seeing Chase’s face as I ran back towards him. Then suddenly there was a blast and I woke up lying on the street. I remember the man running to me and asking if I was okay. It was all coming back to me. My mom wasn’t talking to me on the bed. She was talking to my body. I felt a tear run down my face. I was dead.
