Yosemite 'Fire Waterfall' - Extremely Rare Photos
Author Photographer Unknown
10-18-10
This park was gazetted as a national park in 1890. It is world famous for its rugged terrain, waterfall and century-old pine trees. It covers 1200 sq km and the "fire" waterfall of El Capitan is one of the most spectacular of all scenery.
The spectacular view of the waterfall is created by the reflection of sunlight hitting the falling water at a specific angle. This rare sight can only be seen at a 2-week period towards the end of February. To photograph this rare event, photographers would often have to wait and endure years of patience in order to capture them. The reason is because its appearance depends on a few natural phenomena occurring at the same time...and some good luck.
First is the formation of the waterfall - The water is formed by the melting of snow and ice at the top of the mountain. It melts between the month of December and January and by the end of February there might not have much snow left to melt.
Second is the specific angle of the sunray hitting the falling water. The sun's position must be exactly at a particular spot in the sky. This occurs only in the month of February and at the short hours of dusk. If it is a day full of clouds or something blocking the sun, you can only take pictures of your own faces on the waterfall. It coincides with the fact that the weather in the National Park at that time of the year is often volatile and unpredictable. It compounds to the difficulty of getting these pictures.
Someone did and we all get to see it !!!

Jumping right into viewing the pix , without reading what you wrote first (of course) . I told myself ,"Nice Photoshop work Phan !" and indeed it would've been , untill I got to scroll down to the other pix , and said "No Way ! I don't care how good one gets in photomanips , they're not gonna get THAT good !" . Well of course then I decide to read what you have to say about it (before hangin myself , just in case you WERE that good !) .
Awsome pix brother , one figures after all those years I had lived there I would've come across some of those , then I remembered - I never been in California sober ! So even if I had , I still would not had remembered them anyway !! - What was the name of that state now ?
In Christ , our Lord

When you get to the other side of the "valley" or gorge ? There is a spot where you get that view shot . Probly he/they set up cameras all over it with remote clickers ?? There's no way one can run that fast !! The sun moves you kno .
Used to show my reluctant sponsees the colour change in the trees and ask them if they could do that themselves year after year trying to convince them of our All Beautiful God's existance . Now I got a new set of pix to show - Just in case - (Alkies are hard headed like that you know ) then again , what do I kno huh ?
Luv ya bro

Oh I love Yosemite!!! Thinking perhaps cause of all the huge pine trees.
Thanks for sharing this phan. I had seem one of the pics before but didn't know the story behind it. Wondered what made it appear red. Now I know and appreciate the pics even more.

Sorrow looks back, Worry looks around, But faith looks up! Live simply, love generously, care deeply, speak kindly and trust in our Creator who loves us.

I have heard of the famous burning bush... but burning water?
But then again elijah called on God and God sent fire to lap up the water. Then i wonder if Moses saw something like this.
God bless
