A SPECIAL DAY

READ:
Luke 11:1-4

This is the day the
LORD has made.
__Psalm 118:24

What's special about September 4? Perhaps it's your birthday or anniversary. That would make it special. Or maybe you could celebrate the historic events of this day. For instance, in 1781, the city of Los Angeles, California, was founded. Or this: In 1993, Jim Abbott, a pitcher for the New York Yankees, didn't let anyone get a hit off his pitches__and he was born without a right hand. Or if you're a TV fan: In 1951, the first live US coast-to-cosst television broadcast was aired from San Francisco.

But what if none of these events and facts seem to make your September 4 special? Try these ideas:

Today God gives you a new opportunity to praise Him. Psalm 118:24 says, "This is the day the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."

Today God provides for you and wants your trust, "Give us day by day our daily bread" (Luke 11:3).

Today God wants to speak to you through His Word. The believers at Berea "searched the Scriptures daily" (Acts 17:11).

Today God desires to renew your inner person. "The inward man is being renewed day by day" (2 Cor. 4:16).

With God as your guide, September 4__and every day__ can be special. __Dave Branon

Each new day gives us new reasons to praise the Lord.

*************************Today's Bible Reading __ Luke 11:1-4****************************

1 Now it came to pass, as
He was praying in a certain
place, when He ceased,
that one of His disciples
said to Him, "Lord, teach
us to pray, as John also
taught his disciples."

2 So He said to them,
"When you pray, say: Our
Father in heaven, hallowed
be Your name. Your
kingdom come. Your will be
done on earth as it is in
heaven. 3 Give us day by day
our daily bread. 4 And
forgive us our sins, for we
also forgive everyone who is
indebted to us. and do not
lead us into temptation, but
deliver us from the evil one."

This is one of the most profound passages describing the relationship
between Jesus and His disciples. The Twelve had witnessed many
amazing miracles since they began following the master: lepers
healed, the dead raised to life, storms stilled, the sick healed,
demoniacs rescued, and more. They had also heard Him teach with
authority and had seen Him feed multitudes from next-to-nothing.
Yet, after observing Jesus pray (v.1), they asked Him to teach them
to do the same. This is significant because, of all the things they had
witnessed, it seems that prayer is what they most sought to learn
from Him. May we have the same eagerness to learn from Jesus'
model of prayer.
