Don't Fly Away!
Psalms 55:4-6
4 My heart is severely pained within me, And the terrors of death have fallen upon me.
5 Fearfulness and trembling have come upon me, And horror has overwhelmed me.
6 So I said, "Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest.
NKJV
Have you ever been so troubled by something that you wished you could become a bird and just fly away? David did! It seems like it would be a wonderful escape doesn't it? To grow wings and be able to fly away from it all? To pretend that your problems just don't exist?....
Well we are not called to run away from our problems. Certainly there will be times when we are to take it slow, and wait for the right opportunity to act..... Like when David hid from Saul when Saul was seeking to take his life. When David hid, he was not pretending that everything was fine. He was not ignoring the trial in his life. He was waiting for right opportunity to act.
Eventually when the time was right, David had the opportunity to either kill Saul, or to spare his life. David wisely chose to spare Saul's life because he knew that it was not for him to kill the Lord's anointed. Afterwords, Saul was amazed at David's heart and repented of his anger towards him (1 Samuel 24)!
By running and hiding in that case, David was not actually refusing to deal with his problems, he was simply waiting with wisdom for the right opportunity.
However, we are not to fly away and pretend that our problems don't exist. We are not to ignore them like they simply aren't happening. Our trials and tribulations are allowed in our lives for reasons. We are to cast our cares on God.
Psalms 55:22
Cast your burden on the LORD, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved. NKJV
We are to put our trust in God, we are to call on God and ask for guidance, strength, peace, and wisdom.
Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Philippians 4:6
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. NKJV
AND WE ARE TO FACE OUR PROBLEMS WITH COURAGE!
John 16: 33
33I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
