GOD NEEDS
YOU!

has need of it."

For His triumphal entry into Jerusalem, Jesus chose a donkey to serve as his royal transportation. His disciples were instructed to say, "The Lord has need of it" (Mark 11:3). Isn't it astounding that the Son of God should use such lowly means to accomplish His purposes? Alexander MacLaren commented on this: "Christ comes to us in like fashion, and brushes aside all our convenient excuses. He says, 'I want you, and that is enough.' "

Think of it! The Creator of the universe needs us and desires to fit us into His eternal design! Though all-powerful and not dependent on any creature, He has chosen to carry out His plans through lowly human instruments. If this were not so, He would have taken us to heaven as soon as he saved us by His grace.

Someone once asked Francis of Assisi how he was able to accomplish so much. He replied, "This may be why: The Lord looked down from heaven and said, 'Where can I find the weakest, littlest man on earth?" Then He saw me and said, 'I've found him. I will work through him, and he won't be proud of it. He'll see that I am only using him because of his insignificance.' "

You may be small in your own eyes, but God has need of you!

1 Now when they drew
near Jerusalem, to
Bethphage and Bethany, at
the Mount of Olives, He
sent two of His disciples;

2 and He said to them, "Go
into the village opposite
you; and as soon as you
have entered it you will find
a colt tied, on which no one
has sat. Loose it and bring
it. 3 And if anyone says to
you, 'Why are you doing
this?' say, 'The Lord has
need of it,' and immediately
he will send it here."

4 So they went their way,
and found the colt tied by
the door outside on the
street, and they loosed it.

5 But some of those who
stood there said to them,
"What are you doing,
loosing the colt?"

6 And they spoke to them
just as Jesus had
commanded. So they let
them go. 7 Then they
brought the colt to Jesus
and threw their clothes on
it, and He sat on it.

Jesus' entering of Jerusalem riding on a donkey (Mark 11:1-10; see
also Matt. 21:11; Luke 19:28-44; John 12:12-18) on Sunday signals
the start of His last week on earth before the cross. Matthew 21:4-5
says that Jesus rode on the donkey to fulfill the messianic prophecy
of Zechariah 9:9. Nineteen hundred years earlier, the patriarch
Jacob had alluded to such a messianic sign (Gen 49:10-11). Jesus
declared Himself Israel's King and Messiah and deliberately set in
motion the events that would lead to His betrayal, arrest, trial, and
crucifixion. The Jewish leaders had decided not o arrest Him during
the feast (Matt. 26:3-5; Mark 14:1-2, but God overruled, for the
Lamb of God had to die at Passover (Luke 24:44; Acts 4:28; 1 Cor.
