TREASURE HUNT
READ:
Proverbs 2:1-9

If you seek [wisdom]
as silver, and search
for her as for hidden
treasures; then you will
understand the fear of
the LORD.
__Proverbs 2:4-5

On January 1, 2008, Keith Severin and his 7-year-ld son, Adrien, agreed that they would spend at least 15 minutes every day that year searching together for treasure. Carlos Alcla's article in the Sacramento Bee described how they went our each day in every kind of weather to see what they could find. A year later their collection of coins, golf balls, recyclable bottles and cans, and various other items had yielded more than $1,000. In the process, they enjoyed many hours of companionship and fun.
If we decided to spend 15 minutes a day searching for treasure in the Bible, what would we find? Solomon wrote: "If you seek [wisdom] as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God... Then you will understand righteousness and justice, equity and every good path" (Prov. 2:4-5,9).
Growth won't happen all at once. but gradually, day by day, we will be changed through reading God's Word and obeying Him. And think of the privilege and pleasure of spending time with our heavenly Father.
It begins with a willing commitment, continues with exciting discoveries, and leads to the treasure of wisdom and life. __David McCasland

*************Today's Bible Reading __ Proverbs 2:1-9*************
1 My son if you receive
my words, and treasure my
commands within you, 2 so
that you incline your ear
to wisdom, and apply your
heart to understanding;
3 yes, if you cry out
for discernment, and
lift up your voice for
understanding, 4 if you seek
her as silver, and search for
her as for hidden treasures;
5 then you will understand
the fear of the LORD, and
find the knowledge of God.
6 For the LORD gives
wisdom; from His mouth
come knowledge and
understanding, 7 He stores
up sound wisdom for the
upright; He is a shield to
those who walk uprightly;
8 He guards the paths of
justice, an preserves the
way of His saints.
9 Then you will understand
righteousness and justice,
equity and every good path.

The book of Proverbs is unique in the Scriptures because of its
relative lack of organization and structure. The opening nine
chapters are formed by the wisdom teaching of a father to a son;
but from that point on, the book is a gathering of wise sayings that
are usually only one or two verses in length (with a few notable
exceptions, such as Prov. 31:10-31). The one organizational feature
we see is that they are grouped together under the names of the
authors or collectors of the sayings. These wise sayings give us
great insight for life, though they are not presented in a necessarily
strategic way. They have been collected and preserved under the
inspiration of the Holy Spirit. __BILL CROWDER
