STICKY BURDENS

Have you ever had Super Glue or oil-based paint on your fingers? If so, you may have discovered that what seemed impossible to remove can be taken off with the right solution.

life's burdens can be that way. Someone I was mentoring sent me an e-mail and asked me to pray. It read: "I can't shake this bruden. It's something I haven't been able to give up to God. I'm very sad about it and know that I must hand it over to Him and be transformed. I truly need God's strength to rid myself of it. I know that God's forgiveness can cleanse me if i let it. I just must choose to let it."

I responded, "The joy of the Christian life is knowing that God can handle anything we hand over to Him...But at the same time, the great bruden of the Christaian life is that we__weak and helpless individuals that we are__hang on to stuff we know we need to give to God. We all know the feeling."

Our sins and concerns, big and small, seem to stick to us like Super Glue. The solution? We need to take those burdens off our own hands and put them on God's shoulders. The Bible tells us: "Cast your burden on the LORD, and He shall sustain you" (Ps.55:22).

Why carry around those sticky burdens? __Dave Branon

God tells us to burden Him with what burdens us.

*****************Today's Bible Reading __Psalm 32:1-7************

1 Blessed is he whose
transgression is forgiven,
whose sin is covered.

2 Blessed is the man to
whom the LORD does not
impute iniquity, and in
whose spirit there is no
deceit.

3 When I kept silent, my
bones grew old through my
groaning all the day long.

4 For day and night Your
hand was heavy upon me;
my vitality was turned into
the drought of summer.

5 I acknowledged my sin to
You, and my iniquity I have
not hidden. I said, "I will
confess my trangressions
to the LORD," and You
forgave the iniquity of
my sin.

6 For this cause everyone
who is godly shall pray to
You in a time when You
may be found; surely in
a flood of great waters
they shall not come near
him. 7 You are my hiding
place; You shall preserve
me from trouble; You shall
surround me with songs of
deliverance.

This psalm penned by David is one of the seven penitential psalms
(6, 32, 38, 51, 102, 130, and 143). Together with Psalm 51 Psalm
32 is written in the aftermath of David's adultery with Bathsheba
and murder of her husband Uriah (2 Sam. 11-12). For months,
David refused to acknowledge that he had sinned. Now he writes
of the terrible burden of living with unconfessed sin (vv.3-4).He testifies to the joy of receiving God's gift of forgiveness after
confessing and repenting of his sins with a contrite heart and
becoming receptive to God's rule in his life. __SKT
