MY BEST JOURNEY PART 1
On the 29th June 2012, I set out from Morecambe, at an extremely early hour (4am).. my beloved Helen, Philip and Peter my brother having rung me up to wake me up.. along with two alarm clocks.. haha.
I set off by taxi and arrived at Manchester Airport, although at the wrong terminal, so I had to walk to the right one!. After checking my bags in, I managed to use one of the computers to e-mail Helen and Victoria my niece.
My flight to Nanjing was in three stages, the first one was from Manchester to Amsterdam in Holland, the plane was quite small and the flight was quite short, just an hour.
First leg completed, I arrived in Amsterdam and had some time to wait, about an hour and a half, which went pretty quickly. So off on my second flight, which was from Amsterdam to Guangzhou, which was to take over 10 hours.
I was sat next to a Chinese lady who spoke very good English and was going to Hainan island , she was astounded as many of you were to find out that I was travelling to China to meet and become engaged to my then girlfriend and now beloved wife.
The flight was very long and when we got to Guangzhou, we had to get my luggage and re-check it in, well when we got into the airport, we were ushered down the steps and onto buses to go to the terminal. I did have assisted passage, due to my lack of Chinese speaking. So we were taken on buses to the terminal and I waited and waited for my case.. but sadly it didn't come through.. it had nearly all my clothes in it.. as My brother Peter had told me to take a change of clothes in my carry on bag.. shirt, underpants, socks etc.. thanks big Brother.. good advice.
The person who was helping me tried to help me and he was in heated conversation with several people, but to no avail.
So we set off for Nanjing.. not knowing the whereabouts of my case...I did however have something called Tag and Track.. which for 8 pounds for one year.. you could find your lost luggage.. best 8 pounds I ever spent.
Oh well I thought, it may of gone straight through to Lukou Airport in Nanjing, but when I arrived, I waited and waited at the carousel, but no case, everyone else had gone through the gate.. Helen was still waiting.. she must of thought I wasn't coming!!!
So I went through the gate and said to myself.. look out for Helen.. I needn't of worried.. as I was looking to the left.. a flash of a camera. a cry of Keith and I turned to see Helen running round to me.. we just hugged and held each other very tightly.. together at last.
Helen and I went upstairs to enquire about my case, which I later located at Guangzhou and was safely delivered to the flat at no extra charge.. Praise God.
In August, I went back to the UK, and this was done in floods of tears, later in the year, I came back and I will tell you about the second part of the journey from Manchester to Shanghai on the 4-5th October later.
God bless you
