New Wine in New Bottles..
Hello Mac, JCSM, All,
Blessings!
The subject of fasting plus..Matthew 9:14-17. Then came the disciples of John, saying, "Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not?"
And Jesus said unto them, "Can the children of the bride chamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast. No man puts a piece of new cloth into an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it takes from the garment, and the tear is made worse. Neither do men put new wine into old bottles; else the bottles break, and the wine runs out, and the bottles perish; but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved."
I know that some of you are struggling with the spiritual work that you are trying to do, and the struggling part is wearing you out. In fact, the more you apply yourselves to godly action, the more exhausted you feel. And when someone says to you, "Let go and let God...", you feel like smacking them in the mouth. You go to church on Sunday and feel God there, or perhaps some when singing praises going down the road, but things kind'a work out like the song, you thought you'd found true love, but pfft, he was gone.
Not that you are going to agree necessarily, but that's ok. You have a God root in yourself to do right. You have a new piece of cloth, and you have new wine. The problem is, your new garment isn't quite ready, and your new bottle isn't quite ready, so you are going to have to wait a little while before those godly actions have a godly body to act through. Christ is still being formed in you.
In the mean time, content yourself with the scripture, the law of life in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death. You are in Christ Jesus. Just look forward to Him being in you soon. And when Christ is in you, fasting will be easy, loving will be easy, forgiving will come easier....
Blessings!

It is most certainly far better to die in faith believing, than it is to live in unbelief.
