boulders

Postby deetu » Sat Jun 20, 2009 11:48 am

During a discussion, the Pastor mentioned the fact that a boulder followed behind the Israelites in the Exodus. I turned to a friend and said I didn't ever remember that and she said to read my Bible. I was a little taken back by that since she is well versed in the Word and I thought she would send me in the right direction but... Well, I'm up to the point where Moses is up on the mountain for forty days with God and I saw nothing about a boulder.

Now, I know that different translations will make things different. Like in one study here, I never remembered reading Charity because my translation said Love. I read about the pillar of fire, cloud and angel so one of them can be the boulder in a different translation.

Can someone clear this up for me? Have I not read far enough yet?
I really don't remember a boulder.

Exodus 17:1-7 The Israelites complain about not having water, and Moses says they are ready to stone him. The LORD stands on "the rock in Horeb", Moses strikes it, and out comes water.

Exodus 33:21 > Moses stands on a rock while the LORD passes by him.

Numbers 20:1-13 > Moses told to speak to the rock . . . strikes it. Water comes out.

Deuteronomy 8:15 > God brought them water from the flinty rock.

Deuteronomy 32:18 > the Rock that begot them

Psalm 78:15-16 > the LORD "split the rocks in the wilderness", "brought streams out of the rock".

1 Corinthians 10:4.

That Rock followed them. It was Christ. I can see the Rock was big . . . a boulder following them.

Hello Deetu and Everyone,

God bless you this day.

While I am not sure if this is what your preacher was speaking of, I want to add the following scripture to the ones already given.

Exodus 13:21-22 And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night: (22) He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.

The word "pillar" in these verses, I suppose, could be translated into boulder by some versions of The Bible.

Strong's Concordance (Hebrew #5982) pillar, post, columns; used figuratively of the pillar-shaped cloud of God's presence: - pillars, pillar, apiece, them.

God bless you, Deetu.
Love,
Mack

Okay, finally remembered to ask my Pastor. He said he honestly didn't remember and when he's in the Holy Spirit, he usually doesn't. My girlfriend said "I don't know, for Moses to get water out of" and she really didn't remember either.

I'm just gonna assume that I heard wrong but I'm sure he said boulder. comfy's 1 Corth with The Rock might be the closest. I think it was something along the lines that Jesus was there too.

All well, next time I will interrupt him :)

Thank you all for picking your brains for me.

Gee... my reply is almost a year late rofl

But better late than never right! :P

I do think it maybe translation

For example, verse 21 of the book of Revelation chapter 18

American King James Version
And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.

New International Version (©1984)
Then a mighty angel picked up a boulder the size of a large millstone and threw it into the sea, and said: "With such violence the great city of Babylon will be thrown down, never to be found again.

New Living Translation (©2007)
Then a mighty angel picked up a boulder the size of a huge millstone. He threw it into the ocean and shouted, "Just like this, the great city Babylon will be thrown down with violence and will never be found again.

Luv u miss deetles *hug*
