getting off of medication

This is a question that comes to me often, because for many of us in Christian circles especially, we have a negative stigma attached to taking anti-anxiety medication, or medication for depression.

medication does not hinder spiritual growth and development.

I believe sometimes among Christian circles, there is a stigma...a judgment..that if you have to take medications for one reason or another, you dont have enough faith in the Lord..or that He can heal you. Our bodies are not perfect. And though God can heal, sometimes He chooses not to. Why is that? I dont know, maybe He is using these conditions in these people to reach someone else somehow, in His infinite wisdom, who suffers from the same or other conditions.

My cousin had a stroke at birth. She was formed in a deformed uterus and was born with several physical handicaps. In addition to this, she has suffered with epilepsy caused by the stroke at birth. She has had to take medications her entire life to only half-way control her seizures. What if she didnt have these medications? She would be in one constant seizure, if she were even still alive.

In her life, she has been told several times if she only had enough faith, she would be healed from all of these conditions. This has shaken her faith at times, however.....her life has been a great testimony to the Lord. She never wavers from reaching out to someone in need. She has come to believe and trust that God's grace is sufficient for her and that He does in fact work through her infirmities to be a living example of God's love in every action of her life. I can tell you that there have been many times in my life when i felt that my problems couldnt get any worse and then i look at her and see the love and freedom she has in her spirit in spite of her conditions. Her rewards will be great in heaven, im sure.

I believe conditions of the brain are the same.....they can be attributed to chemical imbalances or a number of different things the human body can suffer from. I also believe that God gave man the knowledge to doctor our bodies. Some conditions last only a short time, while others can last a lifetime. Rest assured that the Lord knows what is ailing your body and will lead you to the help you need..including medications and the doctors to whom He has given knowledge to take care of your bodies.

God is good in all things. His will be done in all things.

love you forever, forever, sis.

in Jesus,

awww ty forever. God is certainly awesome! And He plays a vital role in our recovery. I do not condemn myself for needing meds, it simply is wat it is. One day God may agree that it is time to heal me and me not have to have meds, but until that day comes i know i need it to function, Ty for the beautiful flower. Something like that always cheers me up. and thank you for ur post it was full of wisdom and no judgement, i really liked it.
