Hi Friends
My son is doing the 12 steps and is trying to ask forgiveness from people he has hurt in the past. He asked his old girlfriend to forgive him.
She said too much has happened and she will not forgive him or be his friend. He cried about this last night. I told him we will pray for her.
The relationship she is in now is not a good one. The guy she is with now has a history of beating his girlfriends.
I am praying for the girl and I am praying for my son. He is trying to find closure to his past and I know some of you have gone through this.
Maybe you can advise me as to how to help him

Sis,
He has made his amends to her and has no control as to how she responds. He has done his part. We have no control of others. Sometime it takes time for others to trust us again.
Tell him to read page 449 of the 3rd addition of the AA Big Book on Acceptance.

I agree with Real. I also asked someone I had hurt to forgive me and then felt such condemnation when that person said "no way" and mostly told me to" go to "bleep"."
The main thing is that God has forgiven us even before the other person has. I had to realize this truth to get out of the condemnation and the bondage that person had over me. When some ppl hurt they hurt for a long time and won't forgive. That is not our problem although I commend ya'll for praying for the girlfriend (we all need prayer) but don't let him get boged down cuz she says no. Also, I agree with Chas...love, pray and listen. It will take time but just keep pressing on.
