Obeying Jusus' calling in your life
Obeying Jesus' calling in your life
Have you obeyed Jesus by going out and living the life He called you to do? What does Jesus calling mean? calling means- "The special summons to service that all Christians receive as part of their salvation experience." (The Illustrated Bible Dictionary) There are callings all Christians are to do and then there are specific spiritual gifts. The callings to all Christians are things that we ought to do out of love and service to our Lord. Matthew 4:19 says "Come, follow me, Jesus said," and I will send you out to fish for people." When Jesus said fish for people he meant to share the gospel with people. In Matthew 28-19-20 Jesus says v19 "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and the Holy Spirit, v20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." This scripture is called the great commission. And here is the greatest commandment found in Mark 12:30-31 v30 "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength." v31"The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these." Here is another commandment in 2 John 5-6 on Love. v5 "And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new command but one we have had since the beginning. I ask that we love one another. v6 And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love." These are some of the scriptures of commandments we as Christians need to live and walk in all the time. Now, for specific gifts callings, these are special gifts the Lord has given us for His glory and to further His kingdom. Lets look at some in 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 v4" There are different kind of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. v5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. v6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. v7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. v8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, v9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, v10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different tongues and to still another the interpretation of tongues. v11 All these are the work of one and the same spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines." So, what gift has He called on you to do? Are you just going about "your" business and "your" life without even thinking about what God has called and planned for your life? Are you just thinking that you're not qualified to His calling, or not trained for what He's asking you to perform? He knows and He will give you guidance and equip you to carry out His plans, but we have to totally surrender it to Him so it will be used for His glory and honor. Are you feeling the Lord call you to do something and you just don't want to get out of your comfort zones and stop being lazy and obey the Lord? In James 1:21 James is saying "Humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you." So, accept what God is telling you and it will save you a lot of troubles, heartaches, and trials. But don't do it just to avoid these troubles, do it to please our beloved Lord! In Luke 6:46 Jesus says "Why do you call me 'Lord, 'Lord, and do not do what I say?" You know what you need to do so, get up! And go do it! When you do go and do it He will start opening doors. Maybe you weren't lazy but just overwhelmed because you though your too inadequate or feel unable to do it. God knows what He is doing and He will give you the words to say, and the courage needed, and the love needed or the boldness needed. Maybe you're too afraid of people rejecting the Lord, my friend, don't worry about others reactions, just do what Jesus asks of you and let Him do the rest. Let's look at Galatians 1:11-24 When Paul was called by God.v11"I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel I preached is not of human origin. v12 I did not receive from any human source, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ. v13 For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the Church of God and tried to destroy it. v14 I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers. v15 But when God, who set me apart from birth and called me by his grace, was pleased v16 to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the gentiles, my immediate response was not to consult any human being. v17 I did not go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before I was, but I went to Arabia. Later I returned to Damascus. v18 Then after three years, I went up to Jerusalem to get acquainted with Cephas and stayed with him for fifteen days. v19 I saw none of the other apostles-only James, the Lord's brother. v20 I assure you before God that what I am writing to you is no lie. v21 Then I went to Syria and Cilicia. v22 I was personally unknown to the churches of Judea that are in Christ. v23 They only heard the report: "The man who formerly persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy. v24 And they praised God because of me". If God can call a persecutor of Christians, He can surely call you to also. Here is an example of what anyone can do to serve and please Christ, found in Matthew 10:37-42 v37 "Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves a son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. v38 Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. v39 Whoever find their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it. v40 Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me who welcomes the one who sent me. v41 Whoever welcomes someone know to be a prophet, will receive a prophets reward, and whoever welcomes someone known to be righteous will receive a righteous reward. v42 And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is known to be my disciple, truly I tell you that person will certainly be rewarded." Wow! Look back at vs 38 "Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me.
