"The Book of Romans" was chosen for the title since that book is so rich in Grace to us, but in no way is this forum limited in examining Grace to only the "Book of Romans."

The Blood of the Everlasting Covenant

Hello All,

May the peace of God keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Heb.13
[20] Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,Eph.2
[13] But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
Heb.7
[19] For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.
Jas.4
[8] Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.
Heb.9
[12] Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
Heb.9
[26] For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
Heb.9
[28] So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
Heb.10
[10] By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all

Covenant law is highly significant, and its importance to us of eternal value. It is important for us to know that there was an Old Covenant containing laws and ordinances which failed to bring life to any but the prophets, an occasional priest, and an occasional king. No one could keep the law. All sinned. Such was the problem with the Old Covenant. No one could meet the demands of the law. The law made no one perfect. Under the law of the Old Covenant all died.

Jesus came that we might have life, and have it more abundantly. I suppose in some sense it is taught that the abundant life is having the riches of this world, but that is really not what is meant here. It was not expedient for Jesus to go to the cross so he would have the right to send us a Cadilac. It was expedient for Him to go to the cross so that He would have the right to send us the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth, the Holy Spirit to us. That is what the Lord is saying to us here. The priest, the king, and the prophet were anointed of old, not the general public. His death and resurrection made way for all of us that believe on Him to have His Spiritual Life, His eternal life, His Spiritual nature within us. It is in that sense that we have it more abundantly. In Christ all have life, not just the king, the priest, and the prophet, but we have life more abundantly in this sense, by virtue of having partaken of the divine nature through the Spirit, we all have been made priests and kings and prophets. We are all entitled to be anointed of the Holy Spirit, to be born again, and have Christ live within us. We all have life. It is the riches of God's grace that we are made partaker of because of of our Lord's blood.

There is one aspect of covenant law that Paul attempts to explain to us, but I think most of us fail to make the connection. Paul takes us back to the time of Abraham and shows us the covenant God made with him. Abraham laments the fact that he needs something to convince him the words of promise God spoke to him would come to pass. "How shall I know?" He asks God. God instructs him to take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon. Abraham obeys knowing that Almighty God was yoking Himself to Abraham in His promise to give Abraham and his descendants land, and God was doing so by making a covenant of blood with Abraham. Abraham knew then that God would keep His promise. Abraham had faith in the blood of that covenant. Abraham and God were friends. There was peace between them in the blood of that covenant. Abraham had no fear of being in the presence of God because he had a blood covenant with God. (Do you see where I am going with this?)

Gen.17
[19] And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.

Christ was Abraham's seed after Isaac, and through Christ our Lord we become Abraham's seed and heirs according to the promises that God made to Abraham.

Now comes Paul to us and says we have an inheritance awaiting us in the Kingdom of God because the inheritor of Abraham's blessings was our Lord Jesus. Paul tells us that the inheritance of Abraham's blessings are ours because He that inherited the blessings of Abraham, (Christ), died. And in His death He left us a will containing God's exceedingly great and precious promises ratified by our Lord's own blood, the blood of the everlasting covenant. As Abraham had faith in the blood of the covenant God made with him, we are to have faith in the blood of the everlasting covenant God has made with us in the blood of our Lord Jesus, the seed of Isaac, the heir according to the promise!

Thus Paul tells us to come boldly to the throne of grace, not arrogantly of course, but one full of faith in the blood of the everlasting covenant through which God's great and precious promises come to us. God loves us and is happy to see us and is gracious and kind to us even if we have sinned. We come boldly to receive what? A cadilac you say? No, mercy and grace to help in time of need. If we confess our sin God is faithful just to forgive and cleanse us of all unrighteousness. Why? Because the blood of Christ, the blood of the everlasting covenant, is God's promise to us that we have an inheritance in His house of many mansions through faith in the blood of Jesus, and forgiveness of sins in the riches of His grace. The grace of God given to us because of our Lord's blood is greater than our sin.

The blood of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior gives us access to God as His children and knowledge that in God's presence, and the presence of our Lord's blood is a covenant God Almighty has made with us that is love, kindness, grace, mercy and truth. We should not fear to enter into His presence. The blood of Jesus, THE BLOOD OF THE EVERLASTING COVENANT assures us that we have peace with God FOREVER AND EVER!.

Eph.2
[13] But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
Heb.10
[19] Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus............we have peace with God and we shed tears of gratefulness because the blood of Jesus gives us access to God's great love, and mercy, and grace, and truth, and through faith in our Lord's blood we have peace with God.
Eph.1
[7] In whom we have redemption through his blood
, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

Eph.2
[7] That in the ages to come he (God the Father) might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

Let us draw near....
