reprogramming wrong thinking

As I've taken these baby steps toward freedom, I've seen the biggest problem I have is my mind, what I dwell on, what I have programmed myself to think about. And how very important staying in Gods Word is. It is the root of everything!
Speaking of roots... I see how important pulling weeds is going to be. And how helpful it has been to know it is a process. I see so many weeds, I figure, WOW, there are too many to pull, it will take forever!! Isn't it better to just get the mower out and run them all down? It's so much faster and boy the yard looks better already! Until suddenly hundreds more weeds pop up.
I love how even in nature God shows us so much about Himself and His creations. I always loved planting flowers and digging in the dirt and pruning and weeding. The patient loving care I give those plants is so rewarding when I see them fill out and grow stronger. It makes me cringe when I have to cut one almost down to the nub, but I know it will come back so much more full and healthy.
I guess that's how God is. He lovingly prunes and tends us, and patiently waits for the weeds to be removed. He doesn't mow us over in one day. I am so thankful to see that it's ok if the process takes time. God knows what we can handle, and maybe sometimes if we got too much light at one time we couldn't handle it. The layers have to be peeled away, the unhealthy parts pruned, the dead parts cut off.
Renewing my mind seems an overwhelming task, there is so much "wrong" in there. I couldn't do it on my own. But I am so thankful that God is going to give me the grace and power and leading of the Holy Spirit while my mind is being changed and renewed as I fill it with the Word of God and with the wonderful encouragement of the Oasis family!
"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee."
"Keep your servant from willful sins; do not let them rule over me. Then I will be innocent and cleansed from blatant rebellion." Ps 19:13
