assistance needed

havnt been into the chat rooms recently. i've been having some serious problems with java. i got the older version a few weeks ago so i could see the colors, but after a while i stoped working or something so i just said screw it and i downloaded the latest java. now i cant get in at all. i cant seem to figure out whats wrong either, because each time it tells me something different. please help me out here guys, im completely stumped.
