A whip on his back
For all the times I’ve gossiped about another
A spear in his side
For all the times I’ve caused someone to suffer
A nail in his left hand
For the times when I’ve only thought of me
A nail in his right hand
For when I’ve been selfish but been to blind to see
A Nail in his feet
For all the times I’ve lied
A crown of thorns
For all the horrible things that I’ve tried to hide
A Cross to crucify him
For all of my sin
A Gruesome, painful death
That he didn’t deserve

It should have been me
He didn’t do anything wrong
I deserve to be punished
It should have been me up there all along

3 days pass slowly
With the words “Crucify Him!” ringing in my ears
I pray to God for forgiveness
But I’m not sure if he hears

“He’s not dead, He’s not dead
The one who was crucified
He’s come back
He’s alive, He’s alive!”

I wonder; what does this mean?
Then I hear a little voice saying
“It is done”
And I feel a sense of peace
He did it for everyone

I wasn’t the only guilty one
Who felt weighed down with grief and loss
I wasn’t the only sinner
Who deserved to be nailed to that cross

He did it for us
Every child
Every man
Every woman
Every husband
Every wife
Everyone in the whole world
Because of this act of love
Has the gift of eternal life
