A Butterfly

A Butterfly

As you awoke with a smiling face,
So little did I know,
A day I though to be so fine
Would be a day where tragedy
Would take you away for a long, long time.

My sweet little girl of only 5 years,
Whose eyes shined so bright
By the carelessness of another so
Young, you lost your life that night.

I mourned and I longed, so for you.
I thought that my life was over too.
I thought there would never be
Another day without pain
Unless I could see you again.

If tears could build a stairway
And memories a lane,
I would have climbed right up to heaven
And brought you home again.

But God in heaven,
Who watches those of us left behind,
Speaks to us in many ways
To comfort and give peace of mind.

He spoke to me with a special gift one day,
He gave me a symbol to guide my way,
A symbol of a changing life.
A symbol of peace and beauty
Beyond anything in this world.

At first it came in a dream of you,
As you chased it, laughed, twirled and played
And then again as I sat by your grave and cried
I questioned the decision God had made.

From my dream to your grave appeared a butterfly,
A whisper came from the butterflies wings.
It whispered things I knew were true.
Your life has changed, but my life is not through.

Your life has changed,
But this is not bad,
God has promised eternal life,
So why am I sad?

Now as I take my life day by day,
If my world begins to turn gray,
God sends me butterflies.
He sends them in many ways,
In songs, in poems, and in real life forms,
As they have changed from small caterpillar worms.

So each day I live
I thank him for this another gift
And I know I can only try to repay him
For the blessing he gives me each day.

So now as I fill my home once again
With small wide eyed wonders, eager to learn
I will strive each day to teach them right from wrong
How to pray and praise him through worship and song.

To teach them of God's glory, love and grace
And most important of all God's son,
The one who paid the ultimate price,
Our Lord and savior Jesus Christ,
And the sacrifice made by him,
When he gave up his life for our sins.

Wow Kess...that tugged at my heart. I now see why you like butterflys so much! I love you and am here for you...I know you are allergic to that word but don't worry...if I say it enough times maybe you will start believing that you could be a butterfly also and soar above your past. Take care and you can PM me anytime.
