There is none righteous,

I had been driving in Singapore for 34 years when i recieved my first sumons for speeding! It was not the first time I had exceeded the speed limit, but it was the first tiime I had been fined for doing so.

My first reaction was one of disgust. But as I contemplated the spiritual lesson, I realized that no matter how long I had been driving without a ticket, I was still accountable.

If i can break such a clearly defined law as a speed limit, think how easy it is to break God's perfect law, which covers every aspect of life. No one, no matter how moral or religiously fervent, can keep it perfectly.

Paul wrote, "By the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin" (Rom 3:20). Keeping the law can't save us; rather, through the law we become aware of our sin (3:7-12). That's why God sent His Son to save us. We need the righteousness of Jesus, because we can't be justified through our good deeds. Paul concluded, we are "justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law" (v.28). __C.P. Hia

God's law shows us a need
that only God's grace can supply

****************Today's Bible Reading __ Romans 3:9-20***********

9 What then? Are we better
than they? Not at all. For
we have previously charged
both Jews and Greeks that
they are all under sin.

10 As it is written:
"There is none righteous,
no, not one; 11 there is none
who understands; there is
none who seeks after God.

12 They have all turned
aside; they have together
become unprofitable; there
is none who does good, no,
not one."

13"Their throat is an open
tomb; with their tongues
they have practiced deceit";
"The poison of asps is
under their lips"' 14 "whose
mouth is full of cursing and
bitterness." 15 "Their feet
are swift to shed blood;

16 destruction and misery
are in their ways; 17 and the
way of peace they have not
known." 18 "There is no fear
of God before their eyes."

19 Now we know that
whatever the law says, it
says to those who are under
the law, that every mouth
may be stopped, and all the
world may become guilty
before God. 20 Therefore by
the deeds of the law no
flesh will be justified in His
sight for by the law is the
knowledge of sin.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>INSIGHT<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Paul had already argued that all mankind__Gentiles (Rom 1:18-
32) and Jews (2:1-3:8)__are sinners in need of salvation. In this
passage, he shows the total sinfulness of man. Sin rules the entire
person__our character (vv.10-12) and our conduct (vv.13-18). There
is no difference between a Jew and a Gentile__our words (v..13-14),
our works (vv.15-16). our mind (v/17). and our heart (v/18) condemn
us. All are guilty before God (vv.19-20). Later in chapter 3, Paul will
explain that all who put their faith in Jesus Christ will be justified by
their faith in Him (vv.21-26). __Sim Kay Tee
