Lamentations 3:22-33
22 It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
24 The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.
25 The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.
26 It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.
27 It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.
28 He sitteth alone and keepeth silence, because he hath borne it upon him.
29 He putteth his mouth in the dust; if so be there may be hope.
30 He giveth his cheek to him that smiteth him: he is filled full with reproach.
31 For the Lord will not cast off for ever:
32 But though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies.
33 For he doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men.

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassion never fails. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23 (NIV)

The heat from the sun was strong when I arrived at the street I had been looking for. The street was very steep, but I was on a mission to deliver clothes and shoes to a group of poor families.

As I walked up the street, I remembered the day my son was born. It was a very difficult birth. The doctor had said, “The child is dead. I hope to save the mother.” My mother was with me. Suddenly she noticed that my baby was breathing. “Doctor,” she exclaimed with total surprise, “the child is alive!”

Many years have passed since that day. But as I walked in the sun to deliver those gifts, I thought of God and gave thanks one more time for my son’s life.

God gives us strength when we feel fragile and walks with us through our difficult moments. In many ways, God’s mercy is the reason we are all alive.

Prayer: Thank you, dear God, for giving us courage and strength. Walk with us each day, and call us to work that brings joy to your people. Amen.

Prayer Focus of Day: Mothers waiting for a child to be born.

Thought for the Day: Every day is a gift. How can we show gratitude for it today?
